We sat down and asked “Maur Kii” a few question’s for his fan’s to get a deeper look at his upbringing.
Q: What City Are You From?
Maur Kii: I’m originally born in Trenton, New Jersey but raised primarily in Hamilton, New Jersey.
Q: When Did You Start Making Music?
Maur Kii: I started making music at the age of 14 but started writing poetry that I eventually turned into rap’s at 8 years old.
Q: Tell us about your childhood?
Maur Kii: Growing up I was a bit of a creative nerd. I was really artsy, loved to draw and create. My dad sings and plays 7 or so instruments, so the house was always full of music. I never imagined I’d be doing or have accomplished what I have thus far but I’d like to think I’m a prime example of taking what you love young and developing it to an elite level.
Q: What artist did you grow up listening to that inspired your sound?
Maur Kii: Artist I listed to initially were the goats like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Luther Vandross, The Temptations and more. As I got older I started listening to more Hip-Hop like B.I.G, Tupac, Loaded Lux, Tsu Surf, and more. My sound is more influenced by 00s-2010 Artist/Producers like Timbaland, Aaliyah, Brandy, Darkchild, Chris Brown, Bryson Tiller, Tory Lanez, and the list goes on.
Q: Where did you first start recording music?
Maur Kii: Growing up the studio was always at home whether it was my dad’s studio downstairs or me staying up till 5 in the morning making song’s I’d put on CD’s for mixtapes.
Q: Who are some Artist you wanna shout out that you worked with?
Maur Kii: Shout out my main Co-Writers Gairyd Fuller, Sir Blayke. My consistent producers Eric Tucker, Wontel, Coop and Clay Pangelinan. Some artist I’d like to highlight are the homies over at 7 records, Randy White, NURD, Ashton Grey, Rahanna, Grey Lee, and everyone who’s ever contributed anything to my music.
Q: If you could explain your sound how would you?
Maur Kii: My music is a gumbo composed of bouncy bass heavy R&B, Pop, Rap and alternative sonics mixed with a lyrical approach and rappers cadence. I can do anything from a melancholy trap aesthetic to the brightest and warmest pop/R&B inspired records. There is really no box anyone can put me in because if you check my catalog, I’ve done it all at this point.
Q: What is your most recent release?
Maur Kii: My most recent release is “Plots” featuring “Kacey Family” produced by yours truly.
Q: Do you have anything coming up?
Maur Kii: I have a record called “BTW” (Blow The Whistle) coming out August 4th, produced by “Clay Pangelinan.
