We sat down and asked “I’M KEVON” a few question’s for his fan’s to get a deeper look at his upbringing.
Q: What city are you from?
I’M KEVON : I’m from Decatur Georgia.
Q: When did you start making music?
I’M KEVON : I recorded my first song back in 2017 on GarageBand, but music has always been around me. I grew up in a musical family, so it’s something that’s been in my life from the very beginning.
Q: Tell us about your childhood?
I’M KEVON : I grew up in a big family—also a split family—where pretty much everyone could play an instrument or sing, some even both. I fall right in between generations: I’m the oldest of the younger ones, but also the youngest of the older ones. Most of my childhood was spent with my cousins and siblings, so we were usually at my mom’s house, my grandma’s house, or their mom’s house.
Once I got into music seriously, I invested in my own equipment and laptop and taught myself how to record and mix my own music on Logic. In a way, I became the studio myself.
Q: What artist did you grow up listening to that inspired your sound?
I’M KEVON : I listened to a lot of Michael Jackson, The Temptations, and plenty of ATL based artist. But if I had to choose one artist that really influenced me, it would be young thug.
Q: Where did you first start recording music? And where were the hang out spots growing up?
I’M KEVON : As a kid, it was mostly family houses—my mom’s, grandma’s, or cousins’. When I started really doing music, I set up my own space at home and became self-sufficient in recording and mixing.
Q: Who are some Artist you wanna shout out that you worked with?
I’M KEVON : I moved to Japan in 2021 and connected with a lot of talented artists from different backgrounds. Some who really stood out were a Japanese rapper named Yvngboi P, a producer named Chikah, and the whole Okinawa crew. They inspired me not just with their talent but with their work ethic, and being around likeminded, genuine people helped me take my music to another level.
Q: If you could explain your sound how would you?
I’M KEVON : My sound is rooted in Atlanta but with my own twist. It’s melodic, experimental, and at the same time, global. It’s influenced by the different cultures and artists I’ve connected with. I want my music to move people — something they can feel, relate to, and connect with no matter their background.
Q: What is your most recent release?
I’M KEVON: My most recent release is called PrplWrld. It’s a four-song EP that, in a way, takes you into my mindset and shows what I’ve been going through mentally recently. The good and bad.
Q: Do you have anything coming up?
I’M KEVON : I won’t reveal everything I have coming next, but I encourage everyone to hop on the train before it’s too late
