In our latest interview, rising Los Angeles artist Ajaxx opened up about his journey — from his early beginnings in Watts, California, to the release of his latest project, JAXX WØRLD EP. Known for his smooth, cruising sound and dedication to authentic storytelling, Ajaxx is steadily carving out his lane in the West Coast music scene.
Ajaxx proudly shared that he’s from Watts, California, where he was raised by his grandmother. He credits her for keeping him grounded and introducing him to music early on. “My granny was everything. She kept me busy and out the streets for the most part. She kept me involved with music — from church choir to piano lessons, to clarinet lessons. She even helped me buy my first laptop for recording,” Ajaxx said. Those early experiences would eventually blossom into a passion for music that’s deeply personal and rooted in his environment. Despite not having it all, Ajaxx says he never wanted for much — his foundation was strong, built on love and music.
Growing up in a musical household played a huge role in shaping Ajaxx’s sound. “My dad did music, so I grew up listening to all kinds — Jackie Wilson, Bobby Womack, 2Pac, Biggie, Ludacris, Mystikal, The Temptations, Musiq Soulchild, Donnell Jones, Dom Kennedy — the list is long and they all inspired me in some way,” he shared. That eclectic mix of soulful legends and hip-hop icons is evident in Ajaxx’s melodic tone and storytelling approach, giving his music a timeless yet modern feel.
Ajaxx’s recording journey began humbly, first at a friend’s house downtown before linking with childhood friend Kenny, also known as Travi Peso, whose home studio became their creative hub for years. His dedication led him to study engineering formally, earning a degree in recording arts and investing in his own equipment. “The rest is history,” he said proudly. Before stepping into the spotlight as an artist, Ajaxx built a name behind the boards, working with big names like 03 Greedo, Kalan.FrFr, G Perico, Arin Way, Westside McFly, Haiti Babi, and Twoske.
When asked to define his sound, Ajaxx described it perfectly: “My sound is cruising music. It’s music you can turn on and take a drive — it’s a real vibe fursure.” That effortless cool and authentic West Coast energy is what sets Ajaxx apart, and his latest release, JAXX WØRLD EP, captures exactly that.
