From the DMV to Berlin: The Rise of Rebekah Laur’en

Born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Rebekah Laur’en is an artist shaped by creativity, discipline, and intention. Growing up in the DMV, music was a constant presence in her life. It filled her home, her car rides, and family gatherings. As a child, she was observant and thoughtful, spending time writing and daydreaming. That inner world became the foundation of her artistry.

She began writing at just eight or nine years old. By her teenage years, she was recording and taking her craft seriously. For Rebekah, music was never a sudden decision. It was something that always felt natural. It was simply who she was.

A major influence in her development was Michael Jackson. She studied his performances, his precision, and his emotional delivery. His presence left a lasting mark on her approach to music. She also drew inspiration from artists like SadeWhitney HoustonElla FitzgeraldSarah VaughanPrince, and Johnny Cash. What connects them all, she says, is presence. They did not just sing songs. They transformed them into experiences. That level of intention continues to guide her work today.

Rebekah describes her sound as elevated pop with soul. It is melodic and emotional, yet rhythmic and confident. She blends sensuality with depth, aiming to create music that makes listeners feel something while still moving to it. Every lyric and production choice is intentional, reflecting an artist who is constantly evolving.

Much of her recent music has been recorded between the DMV and Berlin, where her label, Mars Alliance, is based. That dual influence has shaped her current sound, merging American soul with a European edge.

Growing up, she spent time around local performance spaces, open mics, and creative hubs throughout the DMV. Those environments helped shape her stage presence and confidence. Being around other artists reinforced her belief that she was meant to create something bigger than her surroundings.

Her most recent release, “Kisses On The Mirror,” captures that mindset. The record is an uplifting anthem centered on self-love and reflection. It encourages listeners to look at themselves and embrace the person staring back.

With new visuals and additional releases on the way, Rebekah says this next chapter feels bigger and more aligned than ever. She credits her team at Mars Alliance, her A&R Alessandro Costa, and her voice teacher Ms. Catania for pushing her to grow. She also acknowledges the supporters who have streamed, shared, and shown up along the way.

For Rebekah Laur’en, independence does not mean doing it alone. Community is everything.
