Raised in the Ghetto, Made in Oakland: The Story of Baby Gas

Born and raised in East Oakland, California, Baby Gas has become one of the most authentic voices in Bay Area hip-hop — a rapper who represents his culture, community, and roots.

Baby Gas grew up in the tough neighborhoods of East Oakland as a child of immigrant parents from Mexico and El Salvador. Being one of the few Latinos in his neighborhood, he learned early to blend cultures and navigate streets shaped by Black and Brown experiences.

Music became his outlet from a very young age; he began writing and performing as early as nine years old and stayed committed to his craft even when the odds were stacked against him. This upbringing — steeped in struggle, survival, and pride — would form the backbone of his music for years to come.

Baby Gas describes himself as “the most ghetto vato out of East Oakland” — a title that speaks to his lived experience in the streets, his resilience, and his honesty in telling stories many overlook. It’s more than a label — it’s his identity in hip-hop.

Over the years he’s steadily built his name in the Bay Area scene, putting out projects that connect deeply with fans who see their own struggles and hopes reflected in his lyrics. His breakout tracks like “30 On Me,” “Life in the Ghetto,” and “Dos Colombianas” have all showcased his compelling storytelling and commitment to representing his community.

Baby Gas’ collaborations — including working with Bay Area legend E-40 — helped expand his reach and underscore his respect within the rap scene.

Besides his rap career, Baby Gas has also found success as an entrepreneur. He launched his own tequila brand and cannabis line, turning his artistic hustle into broader business ventures.

For him, fatherhood is another core motivation. Balancing life as a parent with music and business, he channels all of it — love, struggle, ambition — back into his work.

In 2026, Baby Gas released his newest project, Ghetto Vato 2: Siempre Ghetto — a sequel album that picks up where he left off, reinforcing his message of grit, pride, and authenticity. The project features 14 tracks that continue to highlight both his roots and his growth as an artist.

With songs like “GHETTO” featuring collaborations that blend cultures and street narratives, Siempre Ghetto stands as a testament to his evolution — not just as a rapper, but as a storyteller for the overlooked and underrepresented.

Baby Gas’ journey is the story of a kid from East Oakland with big dreams and unmatched grind. He’s not just making music — he’s giving a voice to the streets and to communities that rarely see themselves in the spotlight. As he continues to release projects and expand his influence, his journey reflects perseverance, cultural pride, and the power of authenticity.
