Loss, Struggle, and Growth Shape the Sound of nlmbpre$to

For Chico, California artist nlmbpre$to, music is more than a creative outlet—it’s a way to process life, loss, and everything in between. His latest album, From The Other Side, reflects a journey shaped by hardship, resilience, and the determination to tell real stories through melody and emotion.

Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, nlmbpre$to’s early childhood was fairly stable until life took an unexpected turn. When his father’s job relocated and eventually laid him off, the family faced a difficult period financially. Searching for a fresh start, his father eventually secured work in Chico, California, where the family also had relatives. At just 14 years old, nlmbpre$to made the move west.

The transition wasn’t easy. With a large family and limited resources, stability took time. For a while they stayed with his aunt, and at one point even lived in his dad’s boss’s garage before getting on their feet. Despite those struggles, the deeper pain came from loss. One of his aunts was tragically murdered, and his sister passed away at just 18 due to heart complications—experiences that would later shape the emotional depth behind his music.

Around the age of 17, nlmbpre$to began making music. Influenced by artists like Benny from VallejoMBNel from StocktonQuando RondoLil Poppa, and the late Lil Snupe, he gravitated toward a sound rooted in honesty and vulnerability. Today, he describes his style as “pain music”—melodic rap that speaks on real-life struggles, trials, and the lessons learned along the way. It’s the kind of music listeners can feel and relate to.

His first time recording in a professional studio happened in Denver, but most of his catalog has been built in Sacramento at Valstand Recording Studio. Outside of music, his teenage years were simple—walking the city with friends, hanging out in parks, and moving through life without a single main spot, just wherever the day took them.

That lived experience now pours into From The Other Side, an album that balances heartfelt storytelling with motivational energy. The project carries a range of emotions—from deeply personal pain records to hype tracks about grinding and pushing forward. It even includes one of his signature love songs, showing another side of his songwriting.

The album’s standout record right now is “The Matrix,” which continues to gain attention. A remix and a full visual for the track are already in the works, marking the next step in expanding the record’s reach.

Looking ahead, nlmbpre$to isn’t slowing down. He’s already preparing multiple upcoming projects, including a pure rap project focused on having fun and chasing success, a full project of love songs, and another centered on heartbreak—each representing a different emotional chapter of his artistry.

While the music continues to grow, nlmbpre$to remains grounded in the people who helped him along the way. He gives major credit to his family—especially his mother and brothers—for their support throughout the journey. He also shouts out @byjayare, the videographer behind his first video and nearly all of his visuals since. More than just someone behind the camera, Jayare has been a guiding force who genuinely believed in his vision and helped bring it to life.

Another key part of his journey has been Wesley and Warren Aguilar, the twin duo behind Valstand Recording Studio. With hundreds of songs recorded together over the years, they’ve played a major role in his development, teaching him not only recording techniques but also the business side of the music industry.

For nlmbpre$to, the journey hasn’t been easy—but it’s real. And that authenticity is exactly what fuels his music. With From The Other Side now out and more projects already in motion, he’s proving that even the hardest chapters can lead to something powerful.
