Rising artist Tre Pendergrass is building his own lane in music. Hailing from Jacksonville, North Carolina, his story begins in a household where money was limited, but love was never in short supply.
Tre was raised in a single-parent home by his mother, who worked hard to make sure her children never felt like they were missing out. Even when finances were tight, she found ways to create special moments. She would shop for Christmas gifts throughout the year, hiding them away until the holidays. Clearance racks became her secret weapon, and as Tre jokes, “you would’ve thought clearance was designer.” Through it all, she made sure her family felt cared for. In a home where money wasn’t always present, love definitely was.
Music entered Tre’s life during his teenage years. Around the age of 16 or 17, he began producing beats and experimenting with sound. Some of his early work started to gain local attention, but at the time he focused mostly on production. It wasn’t until his early twenties—around 23 or 24—that he began recording and releasing his own music as an artist.
Growing up, Tre was heavily influenced by artists known for blending melody with emotion. He listened to Chris Brown, Usher, and T-Pain, who helped shape his interest in melodic music and vocal expression. At the same time, he was also inspired by hip-hop heavyweights like Jeezy and Lil Wayne, whose presence and storytelling left a lasting impression.
When it comes to his own sound, Tre doesn’t believe in putting himself in a box. He sees his music as something that constantly evolves depending on how he feels in the moment. Instead of sticking to one style, he lets his creativity move freely, allowing each track to reflect his mindset and emotions at that time.
Much of the music Tre has released so far has been created from the comfort of his own home studio. Having that space allows him to experiment, stay consistent, and bring his ideas to life whenever inspiration strikes.
Outside of music, Tre spent much of his childhood staying active. He was always on the move—playing basketball, skating, or hitting the football field. Like many kids growing up in Jacksonville, the mall and local outlets were also common hangout spots where friends gathered and memories were made.
Tre’s most recent release, “LUV+++”, showcases his evolving sound and continues to introduce listeners to his creative direction. But he’s far from slowing down. He currently has several new projects in the works, including three collaborative tapes with three different artists. He’s also developing “Ultraviolet 2,” a follow-up to a previous project, while experimenting with a new sound that he plans to tease closer to its official release.
Along his journey, Tre has crossed paths with many people who have helped shape his growth. While he appreciates everyone who’s been part of his story, he gives a special shoutout to Slee, Jared, Marquece, and Kavaughn—people he considers brothers for life.
