Growing up in Bakersfield, Chochaserbo was surrounded by real-life situations that forced him to mature early. Before music became an outlet, he was dealing with personal struggles, including breakups and emotions he didn’t know how to express. Eventually, music became the place where he could put those feelings into words.
His childhood came with its own set of challenges. Adopted at the age of three, Chochaserbo faced a complicated family history. His father had spent time in and out of jail and was later shot and killed after being released. His mother also struggled with addiction. Experiences like these shaped his perspective and eventually influenced the emotion behind his music.
Interestingly, Chochaserbo didn’t begin listening to rap music until he was around 14 years old. Once he discovered it, he immediately connected with it and hasn’t looked back since. Artists like Rod Wave, Lil Baby, and NLE Choppa played a big role in inspiring him to pursue music seriously. Their different styles showed him that rap could be emotional, energetic, and expressive all at once.
He officially started making music at 18, the same time he came up with the name Chochaserbo. The meaning behind the name reflects his mindset at the time. After turning 18 and realizing he didn’t have much financially, he decided he wanted to start chasing something he didn’t have—money and opportunity.
Chochaserbo describes his sound as versatile. While much of his music leans toward emotional storytelling, he’s also capable of switching things up. Whether it’s making club records that get people moving or delivering confident bars on a track, his music often reflects whatever mood or phase he’s going through at the time.
Like many independent artists starting out, Chochaserbo created much of his early work with limited resources. Most of the music he has released so far was recorded in his bedroom using wired earbuds and the BandLab app on his phone. Despite the simple setup, he focused on making the best out of what he had and continued developing his craft.
Growing up, one of the main places he spent time was Campus Park in Bakersfield. It wasn’t just a hangout spot—it’s actually where he recorded his first song. Outside of that, he also spent time at the mall, simply being around people and enjoying the environment.
His latest project, Rainy Phases, captures the emotional side of his artistry and represents another step forward in his musical journey. But he’s already preparing to show a different side of his sound with upcoming music.
Fans can look out for a new track titled “Shake Dat Ass,” which brings a completely different energy. The song leans into a summer-ready, club vibe designed to get people moving and turning up.
Chochaserbo also made sure to show appreciation to the people who supported him along the way. He gives a special shoutout to H21D Baby for helping him get started in music and keeping him motivated, as well as his sister Audrey for pushing him to release his music and stay consistent. He also credits God for opening doors throughout his journey.
