Staten Island’s Reek Risha Pushes Forward With Consistency and Growth

Reek Risha was born in Morgantown, Virginia, and raised in the Park Hill section of Staten Island, New York—often referred to as “Shaolin,” the same neighborhood known for launching Wu-Tang Clan. Growing up in that environment, he was surrounded by hip-hop culture but also developed an early interest in multiple forms of art, including poetry, drawing, drama, and music.

His first experience creating music came in elementary school at PS57, where he made a song with a teacher that was played over the school’s morning announcements. At the time, it didn’t feel like something that would shape his future. Through middle and high school, he stayed involved in extracurricular activities that included both music and sports, but it wasn’t until after graduation that he began taking music seriously.

Reek Risha started making music at the age of 10, but his official step into the industry came in 2016 when he released his first song, “Life,” on SoundCloud. Around that same time, he traveled to Austin, Texas for SXSW, marking an early moment of exposure and commitment to his craft.

His sound is shaped by a wide range of influences. Growing up, he listened to artists across multiple genres, from rock to hip-hop and international music. Artists like 50 CentNellyQ-TipAndré 3000Kanye West, and Pharrell Williams played key roles in shaping his early sound. He credits Q-Tip, Kanye West, and Pharrell for influencing his approach to producing and performing on his own beats, while 50 Cent and Nelly helped him understand structure and individuality. André 3000’s creativity and style also left a lasting impression, especially through his connection to Class of 3000.

As his taste evolved, he continued to draw inspiration from newer artists such as Kendrick LamarLil Uzi VertA$AP RockyTame Impala, and Tyler, The Creator. These influences contribute to what he describes as a “transformative” sound—one that blends styles and evolves over time.

Recording primarily out of his home setup with Trailerboy Production LLC, Reek Risha also works in professional spaces like EPC Studios in Staten Island and ProdMusa in Brooklyn. Staying close to home while expanding into other parts of New York allows him to maintain control over his sound while continuing to grow creatively.

His latest release, “Cadence,” arrived with a music video on April 24 and is available across all platforms. Looking ahead, he is preparing to release a seven-track EP titled Cocaine Crows, which will include both new material and select previously released songs. He also plans to stay consistent with single releases throughout the summer.

Reek Risha credits his journey to faith, family, and the team around him. He gives special recognition to God, his family, and the teams at Trailerboy Production LLC and EPC Studios for their support along the way.

From early creativity in the classroom to building an independent sound rooted in Staten Island, Reek Risha continues to evolve—focused on making music that reflects growth, experience, and purpose.
