Some artists discover music through radio stations or streaming playlists. For Dorchester R33$, music was part of life from the very beginning.
Born into a family deeply connected to music and nightlife, his earliest experiences came through his father, a blues musician from North Carolina, and other family members who were active in the music business. Long before he ever stepped into a recording booth, he was learning how the business worked behind the scenes.
As a child, he spent time helping his father and uncles at clubs and events. Whether it was unpacking equipment, running errands, or collecting money, he was exposed to the realities of the entertainment industry at a young age. Those experiences taught him lessons that would later shape his own approach to music and business.
While his roots stretch back to North Carolina, it was in Dorchester, Massachusetts, where everything started coming together. Growing up in one of Boston’s most recognized neighborhoods, he developed the perspective and experiences that would later fuel his music.
By the age of 14 or 15, Dorchester R33$ began taking recording seriously. Inspired by both the sounds of the past and the realities of everyday life, he started crafting music that reflected who he was and where he came from.
His musical influences are wide-ranging. Raised on old-school soul and timeless records, he credits artists such as Al Green, Michael Jackson, Anita Baker, Kool & The Gang, Boot Camp Clik, Mobb Deep, Jay-Z, Jeezy, and Payroll Giovanni among the many voices that helped shape his ear. While he appreciates different styles of music, he considers himself a soul baby at heart.
That appreciation for authenticity remains at the center of his artistry today.
Rather than chasing trends, Dorchester R33$ draws inspiration from real-life experiences and genuine situations. He views artists as storytellers, people who document life through music. His love for nonfiction naturally carries over into his creative process, leading him toward music with substance, meaning, and belief behind every word.
Over the years, he has developed a sound that blends an old soul mentality with a modern edge. He prides himself on being versatile, capable of creating different songs and exploring different sounds while staying true to himself. He openly acknowledges the mistakes he’s made throughout life but sees growth as part of the journey. For him, longevity matters more than momentary attention.
“I’m more of a timeless guy,” he says. “I don’t want to water down the game. It’s also a business, and business has to be correct first.”
Outside of music, Dorchester remains an important part of his story. Growing up, he spent time throughout the neighborhood, from local mom-and-pop stores to the blocks and cut-through spots where friends would gather, talk, hustle, and make memories. Those everyday experiences became part of the foundation of his identity and continue to influence his music today.
As his career continues to evolve, Dorchester R33$ remains focused on building quality work and strong business relationships. He gives special recognition to Gunzy, whom he describes as one of the hardest-working engineers in the city. He also highlights his record “Plug X Overlord Scooch,” which was recorded in Detroit and is available on all streaming platforms.
Looking ahead, fans can expect plenty of new music and merchandise. Through every release, Dorchester R33$ aims to deliver honest stories, authentic perspectives, and music that stands the test of time.
He closes with gratitude for the people who have supported him throughout the journey.
“Shout out to my family, the people that believe in themselves, and the city of Boston.”
