Built From Pain, Driven By Purpose: The Story of Semioddo

Growing up in East Oakland, California, life wasn’t easy for Semioddo. His childhood was filled with challenges that no child should have to face. With both parents struggling with drug addiction, he was exposed to hardship at an early age. The defining moment came when he was just 14 years old and witnessed the murder of his father—a traumatic experience that would change his life forever.

After his father’s death, Semioddo began battling anxiety and PTSD, eventually requiring medication to cope with the emotional weight he carried. Like many young people trying to navigate pain without guidance, he found himself running with the wrong crowd while searching for a way to make sense of everything around him.

Music became that outlet.

At 14, shortly after losing his father, Semioddo started rapping. Inspired by legendary artists like 2Pac, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and E-40, he used music to express the emotions he struggled to put into words. Growing up in the Rollin 100’s area of East Oakland, he spent most of his time in the neighborhood that helped shape both his perspective and his sound.

As the years passed, his relationship with music evolved. He eventually stepped away from rap and began exploring singing, developing a style that blended country, soul, and hip-hop. Today, he describes his music as “Heal Music.”

Rather than focusing solely on pain, Semioddo’s music centers on overcoming it. Drawing from more than 20 years of therapy, self-study, and personal growth, his mission is to share the lessons he’s learned with people who may be facing similar struggles.

“I talk about pain, but more so how to overcome it,” he explains.

What makes his journey even more remarkable is his commitment to independence. Semioddo records, mixes, and masters all of his music himself, building his sound entirely in-house and maintaining complete creative control over his message.

His latest release, “Beat Anxiety,” reflects both his personal battles and his commitment to helping others find strength through their own. It’s a song rooted in experience, healing, and hope—a message that has become the foundation of everything he creates.

With more Heal Music on the way, Semioddo continues to transform life’s darkest moments into something meaningful. His story is proof that while trauma can shape a person, it doesn’t have to define them.

He also credits much of his healing journey to the people who stood by him along the way. He gives a special shoutout to his wife for helping him heal, supporting him through recovery, and never letting him give up. He also acknowledges Ronski, Cyrbside Ant, and J. Dandridge for their advice, guidance, and unwavering support throughout the years.
