Growing up in Tustin, California, Sadie Jean was surrounded by the kind of small-town atmosphere where family roots run deep. In fact, her father attended the same high school she would eventually go to years later. While music wasn’t a major part of her family’s daily life, it became a part of Sadie’s story almost from the beginning.
Before she could fully write or even speak in complete sentences, she was already creating melodies and songs in her head. Her imagination moved faster than her ability to put words on paper, often leading her to ask her older sister to help translate the lyrics she was coming up with. Recognizing her passion at an early age, her mother enrolled her in piano lessons, a decision that would later play a major role in shaping her songwriting abilities.
Despite her natural talent, confidence didn’t come easy.
Around the age of eight, Sadie had a negative experience after sharing a video of her music online. The moment left a lasting impression and made her self-conscious about her abilities. As the years passed, she kept much of her songwriting private. In fact, she would sometimes pretend she couldn’t sing well around her friends, choosing to keep that side of herself hidden rather than risk being judged.
That began to change during her junior year of high school.
One day, Sadie sent a cover of Radiohead’s classic song “Creep” to friends and family. The response was overwhelmingly positive and gave her the confidence she had been missing for years. Encouraged by the support, she started sharing more of her music with others. By her senior year, she uploaded her first original song to SoundCloud, officially taking her first steps as a recording artist.
Her breakthrough arrived sooner than expected.
During her freshman year of college, Sadie posted a snippet of an original song titled “What Are You Doing Now?” on TikTok. What started as a simple upload quickly turned into a viral moment. The song connected with listeners across the platform and introduced her music to a massive audience almost overnight.
From there, Sadie continued building a catalog that showcased her honest songwriting and emotional storytelling. Songs like “Laundry Room,” “By Now,” “Forgive Myself,” “Locksmith,” and “Just Because” helped establish her as a voice that listeners could relate to, blending vulnerability with memorable melodies.
Those releases eventually led to her debut album, Simple Like 17. The 10-track project featured no guest appearances and allowed Sadie to fully tell her story through her own voice. Driven by the success of the lead single “WYD NOW?”, the album captured the emotions, memories, and growing pains that come with adolescence and self-discovery.
Following her debut, Sadie continued evolving with the release of Early Twenties Torture, a 12-track project that further explored the challenges of young adulthood. Once again opting for no features, she leaned into personal storytelling on standout records such as “Slow Burn,” “Move On First,” “She’s Dating My Boyfriend,” and “See You on Sunday.”
Today, Sadie Jean’s journey serves as a reminder that sometimes the biggest opportunities come from taking a chance and sharing something you’ve kept hidden for years. What started as melodies in the mind of a young girl from Tustin has grown into a career built on honesty, vulnerability, and a genuine connection with listeners around the world.
