Nic Junior’s story starts on the South Side of Chicago, where he was born and raised between Over East and the 100s. As the oldest of five children, he grew up surrounded by family, responsibility, and creativity. His childhood was filled with video games, basketball, and music, but what stood out most was the environment around him. Creativity ran through his family. From artists and musicians to home decorators and models, inspiration was always close by.
At just 13 years old, Nic Junior got his first job. That experience helped build the hustler mentality he still carries today. The lessons he learned growing up in Chicago became part of who he is, shaping both the man he became and the music he creates. He embraces where he comes from and considers himself a product of his environment.
Music entered his life early. While attending elementary school, he began playing drums, developing a natural connection to rhythm and sound. By the age of 16, he was writing and recording his own music, turning his passion into a serious pursuit.
His musical influences span generations and genres. Growing up, he studied the greatness of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Bob Marley, Biggie, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Cash Money, No Limit Records, Dipset, Cam’ron, Juelz Santana, Slick Rick, 50 Cent, Outkast, DMX, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Pharrell Williams, and The Neptunes. The diversity of those influences helped shape a style that blends authenticity with creativity while remaining true to himself.
When asked to describe his sound, Nic Junior keeps it simple: fun, unique, organic, authentic, and timeless. Those qualities can be heard throughout his catalog. Whether recording in a professional studio or creating through BandLab, his focus remains the same—making music that feels genuine. His vocals and records are often mixed by Tha Audio Unit and Chris Ray, helping bring his vision to life.
Outside of music, many of his memories were made around some of Chicago’s well-known community spots. He spent countless hours playing basketball at Jackson Park, both outdoors and inside the field house, as well as at the YMCA on 63rd Street. Other familiar stops included Leaders 1354, The Shop, and Fernwood Park. These locations weren’t just places to pass time—they were places where friendships were built, lessons were learned, and experiences were gathered.
Recently, Nic Junior released his latest project, Still Smoking, adding another chapter to his growing catalog. Alongside the project, he also dropped the single Baby Mama’s, a separate release that continues to showcase his evolving artistry. Fans can expect even more music on the horizon, including new singles and another project currently in the works.
As he reflects on his journey, Nic Junior is quick to acknowledge the people who helped him along the way. He extends gratitude to Tony Baines, better known as Baines God, Vic Lloyd, Mike 100s, Mano, Twilight Tone, Jon Monopoly, The Cool Kids, Uncle Frank, his late Uncle Adam, his three late grandfathers, Corey, Scoob, Q Beans, his mother Christian Foster, his cousin Coo Ass Ice, Aunt Yvonne, Christian, Tha Audio Unit, King Ezz, and Ned Wordz. Their support, guidance, and belief in his vision have all played a role in helping him continue pushing forward.
