Emerging out of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, ABGR Lil Cory is one of the most talented artist out the city. Growing up in a place he describes as difficult to make it out of, Cory experienced life at an early age in ways that helped shape his mindset, ambition, and approach to music. After recently relocating to Miami to pursue his career, he is focused on taking his name to new heights while staying true to the experiences that made him who he is.
Describing himself as a “project baby,” Cory was raised by his mother, whom he credits for being caring and supportive throughout his upbringing. His father spent much of his life incarcerated and passed away a couple of years ago, leaving Cory to navigate life without his presence. His grandfather became an important male role model, teaching him the value of ownership, investing in property, and building generational wealth. Even as a child, Cory was focused on hustling and learning real-world trades, developing a mindset centered around independence and creating opportunities for himself.
Music eventually became another part of his journey, inspired in part by his older brother, who was a rapper before his passing. Cory began spending time at the studio simply to be around the environment, where he developed a relationship with producer Heartbeatz. What started as hanging around the studio soon turned into something more when Heartbeatz encouraged him to use some remaining studio time and record his first song, “Old School,” featuring Fatt Macc.
The record quickly gave Cory a foundation to build on. After its release, he put a marketing strategy behind the music video, promoting it through various Instagram promo pages. The approach paid off, with the video generating between 20,000 and 40,000 views on its first day. That early momentum helped put his name in circulation, and within just 60 days of releasing his debut record, Cory had secured a deal, marking a major turning point in his career.
Sonically, Cory draws inspiration from the foundation of trap music, pointing to pioneers like Jeezy and Gucci Mane as major influences. His goal is to bring that original dope boy aesthetic back to the forefront, built around heavy production, hard-hitting beats, and music that carries a certain energy. At a time when he feels much of the sound is geared toward social media trends and dance challenges, Cory is focused on delivering music that stays true to the roots of the genre. His in-house production team also plays a role in developing the sound he wants to bring to the game.
Continuing to build his catalog, Cory released two albums in 2025, Everything Must Go and Act Broke Get Rich. Throughout his journey, records like “So Ridiculous,” “Streets Made Me,” “Box Chevy,” “Peppermint,” “Pop It,” “Copy,” and “My Type” have helped shape his growing body of work. Each release adds another piece to his story as he continues to establish his identity and expand his reach beyond Mississippi.
Now pushing forward from Miami, ABGR Lil Cory is keeping his focus on growth, consistency, and bringing his own vision to the music industry. His latest single, “Whatever She Want,” is out now and available on all streaming platforms.
