The Artist Connect Presents: The Story Behind WillCapone

Growing up in Rockford, Illinois, WillCapone learned early in life that everyone has a different story to tell. But before he began building his own name through music, WillCapone faced personal challenges that helped shape the person he is today.

His childhood came with its share of hardships. After losing his mother at just six years old, he spent time in foster homes before his grandmother took him in at the age of eight. Growing up in a household full of women came with its own challenges, but those early experiences became part of his journey. Despite the difficulties he faced at a young age, WillCapone continued finding ways to express himself.

His connection to music started early. By the second grade, he was already rapping, surrounded by music and influenced by the artists he saw growing up. As he got older, he developed an appreciation for melodic music, particularly artists like Drake, whose sound helped influence his own musical direction. That early exposure helped him discover the style he wanted to create.

Toward the end of his freshman year of high school, WillCapone began recording and releasing his own music. Working with BandLab on his phone, he started putting his ideas together and turning them into actual songs. Rather than immediately sharing his music with everyone at school, he decided to wait until the school year ended before posting online. He wanted the opportunity to build his audience on his own terms and let the music speak for itself.

Once he began sharing snippets on social media, things started moving in the right direction. His videos began attracting attention, and a major turning point came when a prominent figure reposted one of his videos. In a single day, his likes jumped from 800 to 4,000, giving him a glimpse of what was possible when his music reached a wider audience.

He followed that moment with a video for his song Monkey Business, which went on to receive 30,000 likes. The response helped him build a growing fan base and created momentum for what would become one of his breakthrough records, No Good 4 Me. What started with recording music on his phone was turning into something bigger, proving that consistency and the right exposure could open new doors.

As his journey continued, WillCapone added more records to his catalog, including Blowing Kisses, Love Letters, Out My Element, Find Somebody, and Collide. Each release represents another step in his development as an artist, continuing to build on the melodic sound and personal expression that first drew him to music.

Now, WillCapone is continuing to build on that foundation with his latest release, Dear Love, which is out now and available on all streaming platforms.
