A.Brims: From Crenshaw Streets to L.A. Hat Royalty

In the heart of Los Angeles, in the storied Crenshaw District, there is a rising creative force stirring within the world of streetwear and headwear. Known by many as A.Brims (or simply “Brims”), he is carving his place through grit, vision, and a lifelong connection to hats. As the Head of Marketing & Design at LA’s Hat Heaven, Brims fuses community, culture, and craftsmanship into each collection he touches.

Brims’ story begins in a neighborhood that few would call easy. Growing up amid limited opportunities, high crime rates, and constant temptation, he still dared to imagine something more. His upbringing didn’t neglect passion or discipline: coming from a sports-oriented family, Brims spent a great deal of time outside, especially playing baseball. If he wasn’t out on a field, you could find him at the local mall or hanging at his friend’s mini-mart in Inglewood, “Icy Mo’s Mini Mart.” These are not just nostalgic footnotes — they mattered. They grounded him in the community and shaped his perspective on what’s possible.

For Brims, hat design isn’t just about style — it’s about storytelling. Each drop reflects a piece of Los Angeles, from the neighborhoods that raised him to the moments that shaped the city’s identity.

His hats have become wearable art, representing both community pride and individual expression. Whether it’s a nod to local history or a tribute to a legendary moment in sports or music, every detail tells a story.

From an early age, Brims had a creative mind. He loved the entire journey: taking an intangible idea, envisioning its possibilities, and then making it real. And hats were already in his orbit — growing up wearing them and being around a father who ran a hat store meant that designing headwear was part of his DNA.

Brims now holds the dual roles of Head of Marketing and Design at LA’s Hat Heaven. This brand, which operates within Pro Image Sports stores (notably in the Crenshaw Mall and Fox Hills Mall in Culver City) has become a hub for bespoke headwear, limited drops, and local expression.

Though LA’s Hat Heaven had offered new colorways and designs since its opening, it was during the COVID-19 pandemic that Brims elevated the game. He began releasing exclusive collections and collaborations, bringing fresh elevation to a shop that already had brand cred.
