Growing up between Santa Fe Springs and Whittier in Southeast Los Angeles, Cause The Sovereign learned early that life came with challenges. With his mother living in “the Springs” and his father in Whittier, both cities became home and played a major role in shaping the person and artist he is today.
Coming up in a broken home as the youngest of six, Cause The Sovereign had to learn independence at an early age. Surrounded by gang culture, he quickly learned the importance of understanding his environment, knowing the do’s and don’ts, and finding his own path. Nothing was handed to him — everything had to be earned.
His connection to music started young. At just 7 years old, Cause The Sovereign began writing, first through poetry and later through storytelling. Always drawn to words, he spent time reading the dictionary to expand his vocabulary and sharpen his craft. What started as a love for writing eventually became a lifelong passion for hip-hop.
Growing up, he was inspired by legendary artists such as Nas, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre. As he developed his own taste, he discovered the deeper side of hip-hop through groups like Jedi Mind Tricks, Living Legends, Beat Junkies, Visionaries, and A Tribe Called Quest. The lyricism, creativity, and foundation of the culture became the blueprint behind his own music.
His sound represents the roots of hip-hop while bringing his own perspective to the table. Cause The Sovereign creates conscious, uplifting, and values-driven music centered around lyricism and storytelling. Influenced by artists like Nipsey Hussle and J. Cole, his goal is to create records that inspire, motivate, and leave an impact.
Beyond music, Cause The Sovereign has continued building his own movement. He is the founder of Blessed And Cursed Clothing and Blessed And Cursed Records, creating a brand and platform that represent his vision, creativity, and dedication to building something bigger than himself.
Throughout his journey, local places helped shape his memories and experiences. Villas Tacos in Santa Fe Springs was one of the spots where people gathered before it closed, while Uptown Whittier became another place where he spent time and connected with the community. His own house was also known as the kick-it spot, where friends would come together and share moments that became part of his story.
Much of Cause The Sovereign’s current music was recorded at The Pinnacle Sound OC in Santa Ana, where he continues to develop his sound and bring his vision to life. He gives special recognition to LD, who handles engineering at Pinnacle Sound OC, calling him one of the best in the game.
His latest release, “Just Chillin’,” arrives July 10, 2026, continuing his mission of delivering authentic hip-hop with substance. Looking ahead, Cause The Sovereign is preparing to release his upcoming EP Blessed And Cursed in August, a 4-6 song project that will also be available in physical formats including vinyl, CD, and tape. The release will include an NFC-enabled digital download, giving fans a way to experience both the physical and digital sides of the project.
From writing poetry as a child to creating music, clothing, and a label built around his own vision, Cause The Sovereign’s journey is built on perseverance, growth, and staying true to the foundation of hip-hop. Representing Santa Fe Springs, Whittier, and Southeast LA, he continues to prove that real stories, meaningful lyrics, and independent creativity still have a place in today’s culture.
