Spb Newborn’s story begins in Watts, California, raised by a single mother and shaped by a system that never made things easy. County living, Section 8 housing, and time in foster care were part of his reality from a young age. By thirteen, he was already in and out of jail, learning hard lessons early while trying to survive an environment that rarely offered second chances. Through it all, two figures stood tall in his life—his brother and his uncle. They were his examples, his compass, and his motivation.
Music was always around, but it was his big brother who carried the torch first. His brother was the rapper, the one with the mic, and Spb Newborn was his biggest fan long before he ever became an artist himself. Watching from the sidelines slowly turned into stepping into the booth, recording songs, and discovering his own voice. That journey became deeply personal when his brother passed away in October 2023. The loss hit hard, but it also solidified the purpose behind the music. Every verse now carries legacy, pain, and love.
Just months later, in September 2024, life tested him again. Spb Newborn was sentenced to what felt like a life sentence, serving twenty months before coming home. Instead of excuses or setbacks, he chose focus. He got right back to work, determined not to let time, trauma, or circumstance define his future.
His sound reflects the range of what he grew up on. Early influences came from R&B—both male and female artists—music that taught him melody, emotion, and vulnerability. As a teenager, artists like Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa shaped his approach to rap, inspiring him to blend bars with feeling. Today, he describes his style simply and honestly: melodic rap, rapping with melodies, letting the emotion ride just as much as the words.
His upbringing stretched beyond Watts, moving through Hawthorne, South Central, and the Inland Empire, each place leaving its own mark on his perspective and sound. That movement, that constant adaptation, shows up in his music as hunger and urgency.
Now, Spb Newborn is moving at full speed. He’s released five new projects back-to-back, flooding the scene with content, reels, and momentum, with visuals continuing to roll out. A new five-song EP is on the way, with the date coming soon, and the grind shows no signs of slowing down.
Above everything, the music remains a tribute. A salute to his brother, Spb Killa, whose influence started it all and whose spirit still lives in every track. Spb Newborn isn’t just telling his story—he’s surviving it, honoring it, and turning it into something lasting.
