We sat down and asked “BOOQIE” a few question’s for his fan’s to get a deeper look at his upbringing.
Q: What city are you from?
BOOQIE: I am from South Central, Los Angeles California
Q: When did you start making music?
BOOQIE : I started taking music seriously in 2018 after my mom passed and officially started dropping music in 2019
Q: Tell us about your childhood?
BOOQIE : My upbringing wasn’t no crystal stairs, I move around a lot, from the Slauson district, to the jungles, to Gardena back to South Central and even living on the East Side for a while. A few things I witnessed…I watch my father leave when I was 2 years old, so my mother became a single mother again raising my older sister and I. I watched my mom work 4 sometimes 5 jobs to maintain everything. When I was 7 years old my mother, sister and I were on the run for 8-9 months because my step father was trying to kill my mom. We ended up having to live with family members for a couple months then lived in a hotel for 8 months. After moving into an apartment the following day I witnessed my mother being stabbed almost to death and my sister got thrown down a flight of stairs. From that moment on my life just wasn’t the same. But I still kept a smile on my face and pushed through. Been bullied, fights, street shit… but I’ve always utilized my pain and turned it into positivity some how some way. I play football overseas in Brazil and also have been working to extend my music internationally and football has helped me travel and see many many places
Q: What artist did you grow up listening to that inspired your sound?
BOOQIE : I love music in general and grew up listening to oldies, Michael Jackson, Al Green, The temptations, 2pac, NWA… my mom and dad were music junkies lol
Q: Where did you first start recording music? And where were the hang out spots growing up?
BOOQIE : Local hang out spots growing up, Darby Park, Rowley Park, St. Andrew’s Park, Crenshaw mall, Fox hills, South Bay Galleria, World on wheels. When I was younger I played travel ball a lot for St. Andrew’s park. Then started to play Football in high school.
Honestly I did my first ever recording in Brazil 2017. I was with my big bro Ray and Bruh swavey who created music. We were chilling, smoking listening to some tunes and he said “hey want to record”? I laughed and said hell yea fuck it hahahaha. After that I still didn’t take it seriously.
Q: Who are some Artist you wanna shout out that you worked with?
