Built on 23rd & Union: The Rise of Seattle Artist Mafi D

Emerging from Seattle’s Central DistrictMafi D represents a generation shaped by neighborhood roots, shifting city lines, and firsthand experience. Raised around 23rd & Union before gentrification reshaped the area, Mafi spent his early years outside with his homies, absorbing the realities of the block and the culture that came with it. That environment would later become the foundation of his music.

Growing up, Mafi D was heavily influenced by artists like Mac Dre and Lil Wayne. Their presence sparked his interest in music early on, but it wasn’t until 2015 that he began recording seriously. His first real introduction to the studio came through an older friend, Mac Slug, who had a recording setup just down the street from the neighborhood. It was there that Mafi started experimenting—testing different sounds, melodies, and flows—until his style began to take shape.

A turning point came when Mafi was introduced to producer D-Pro and legendary Seattle artist Vitamin D at Vitamin D’s personal studio. The connection was made through fellow neighborhood rapper D Menace, and it marked the moment when things began to move faster. With guidance, access, and a clearer sense of direction, Mafi D transitioned from local momentum to a broader musical lane.

Since locking into his sound, Mafi D has built an impressive catalog of collaborations, working with artists such as BabyFace Ray, Larry June, Sauce Walka, Lil Seeto, Big Sad 1900, and Lil Bean. These features helped place him in conversations well beyond Seattle, aligning him with respected names across the West Coast and beyond.

In mid-2025, Mafi released Club Dollhouse Special, a project that reflected his growth, confidence, and ability to balance street perspective with club-ready energy. He continues that run with his latest single, “She A Mood,” featuring Ellis Prescott and MikeJack3200—a track that leans into slick production and laid-back charisma.

Mafi D’s rise hasn’t gone unnoticed. He was recently featured on Back On Figg, one of the biggest media platforms on the West Coast, further cementing his presence in today’s hip-hop landscape.
