Faith, Family, and Flow: The Story of Canda’ce

Canda’ce’s story begins in Acres Home, Houston, Texas, where she was born and raised as the youngest of seven children. Growing up in a small two-bedroom house without central air, she shared a room with four siblings while her parents occupied the other. Life was modest, but filled with love, faith, and resilience. Raised in a strict Christian household, Canda’ce spent much of her early years in church—attending multiple services each Sunday, participating in Sunday school, singing in the choir, and engaging in church programs. These experiences, guided by her parents, built the strong foundation that continues to shape her life and music today.

Her journey into music began early. At just six or seven years old, she discovered her father’s book of poems, sparking a love for writing. By age 12, she had picked up the trumpet, learning how to read, write, and transcribe music. Poetry remained her primary outlet until she was 15. A year later, she wrote her first rap. Interestingly, her first song came even earlier—at 13—when she composed and performed a piece on the piano, singing as she played.

Canda’ce’s musical influences are as diverse as her background. She grew up listening to artists like Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, Eve, and Left Eye, along with 50 Cent and Eminem—sometimes on cassette tapes. The arrival of Nicki Minaj marked a turning point, inspiring her to pursue rap more seriously. At 15, she also discovered K-pop, drawn to its vibrant visuals and cultural differences. Even without understanding the language, she connected deeply with the emotion in the music, broadening her perspective on sound and storytelling.

Her style reflects this wide range of influences. Blending elements of Houston and New York hip-hop with R&B, Canda’ce creates music that is both personal and unpredictable. No two songs sound the same, a direct result of her upbringing and openness to different genres.

In her relatively short time in the industry—just over two and a half years—she has recorded her music at The Pharmacy Studio and Playanation Studio, spaces she credits as instrumental to her development as an artist.

Growing up, Canda’ce spent most of her time at home under the watchful care of her mother, who prioritized safety in a challenging environment. As she got older, she found small freedoms—walking with her sister to Carver Pool or visiting the Acres Home library with her siblings. These simple experiences added to the depth and perspective she brings to her music.

Her latest release, Act II: The Project, dropped on December 19, 2025. The 17-track project showcases her growth and versatility, offering listeners a full spectrum of her sound. The project is currently available on YouTube, free for fans to experience.

Canda’ce remains grounded in gratitude. She credits God for her gift and the opportunity to share it. She thanks her father for encouraging creativity, her sister for inspiring her as a writer, and her mother for providing guidance and space to grow. She also acknowledges her manager, DJ Chops, and South Star Music Group for helping turn her vision into reality.
