Boston, Massachusetts has long produced artists with real stories to tell, and Mattapan native Noonsz Debonair is no exception. His music reflects a life shaped by family, the streets, and years of quietly sharpening his craft.
Growing up in Mattapan, Noonsz says his childhood was better than most. He was raised by a strong mother in a household where, technically, both parents were present—but like many kids from similar environments, his father often played more of a part-time role. Still, his mother held things together, raising him with guidance and discipline.
Like many young Black kids growing up in the hood, curiosity eventually pulled him toward the streets. It’s not something he glorifies, but it became part of the experience that shaped who he is today. Those moments built character, awareness, and a deeper understanding of life that now fuels his music. Looking back, he wouldn’t change it. Those experiences gave him the content and perspective he pours into his lyrics today.
Music entered his life early—earlier than most people would expect. At just five years old, Noonsz was already recording himself on cassette tapes with help from his mother. At the time, he leaned more toward singing, mixing in a little bit of rap here and there. By the age of ten, he wrote his first rap verse. While the passion was there, he admits he didn’t yet have the skill set or focus to take it seriously.
That changed when he reached 19 or 20 years old, when he began to truly recognize his potential.
Like many lyric-driven artists, Noonsz studied some of hip-hop’s sharpest pens. Artists like Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Jadakiss, Lloyd Banks, and 50 Cent played a role in shaping his sound. Wayne and Fabolous influenced his clever punchlines and layered metaphors, while Jadakiss inspired the raw honesty that comes through whenever he “bleeds on the pen.”
But while the inspiration is clear, Noonsz believes his style stands on its own.
“My style is one of none,” he says. “Nobody got it.”
Today, much of his music is recorded at Phoenix Down Studios, where he works closely with engineers @coldspringmotel and @dirtyscho to bring his sound to life. While life once had him constantly moving from place to place, the studio has always been one of his most consistent environments—a place where he could focus, reflect, and create.
Noonsz Debonair continues to build momentum with his latest release, “Needed You” featuring Jake.Is.Next. The record gives listeners a glimpse into the direction his music is heading as he prepares for a bigger body of work.
Later this year, he plans to release his upcoming project titled “TRV.” The project will include “Needed You” along with several new records and collaborations. He also has another single titled “All Of A Sudden” ready to drop at any moment. Alongside the music, fans can also check out the official video for his previous release “De Luna,” which is currently available on all platforms.
Behind the music is a support system that helped shape the artist he’s become. His mother played a key role in building his confidence from a young age, while his cousin Franko pushed him mentally, constantly reminding him of the talent he had. That pressure forced him to reflect on himself and ultimately take his music seriously.
His team behind the scenes—especially his engineers and camera crew—have also played an important role in helping him continue to grow as an artist.
For Noonsz Debonair, the journey is still unfolding. But with years of experience, a sharp pen, and a story rooted in real life, the Mattapan artist is determined to keep building and letting the music speak for itself.
