Gavin Di Different: From Maroon Town to the Music Scene

Growing up in the Rural Hills, Jamaica, Gavin Di Different was surrounded by the kind of experiences that stay with you for a lifetime. Raised in the rural hills, his childhood was spent outdoors, enjoying a simple way of life that kept him connected to his roots. From showering outside and swimming in rivers and streams to catching crayfish, making catapults, and climbing mango and coconut trees, his early years were filled with memories that helped shape the person he is today.

As he got older, music became another important part of his life. Growing up listening to legends like Bob Marley, 2Pac, and Vybz Kartel, Gavin developed an appreciation for different sounds and styles. Their influence helped shape his musical direction, but he has continued to develop a sound of his own. At just 15 years old, he began his journey into music, laying the foundation for what would eventually become his career.

While his roots remain in Maroon Town, Gavin also spent time around Montego Bay, where the Hip Strip and Sam Sharpe Square were among his local hangout spots. These places became part of his upbringing, connecting him to the people, culture, and energy of the island.

Today, Gavin Di Different brings together elements of reggae and melodic rap, creating a sound that reflects both his Jamaican roots and his own musical identity. Much of his music is recorded at his home studio, allowing him to work on his craft in a familiar environment while continuing to build his catalog.

His most recent release, the album PIRATES, featuring The Don Don, marks another step forward in his musical journey. With more music on the way, Gavin is preparing to keep the momentum going. His upcoming release, “Like an Alien,” featuring Kurupt, is another opportunity to introduce listeners to what he has been working on.

Through it all, Gavin recognizes the people who helped him along the way. He gives a special shoutout to Akam Entertainment for posting his first-ever music video, KreAsian Records for recording his first song, and, most importantly, his mother for always believing in him.
