Inside the Rise of Chicago Artist Sherrionn

Coming out of Chicago, Sherrionn’s journey into music started long before she ever stepped into a studio. Raised within a complex family dynamic, she grew up away from her biological parents and was supported by a chosen family. Still, music was always part of her DNA—her mother was a vocalist and dancer, and her father was a signed rapper. Even without being raised directly by them, that creative energy found its way into her early on.

As a child, Sherrionn was constantly surrounded by music. One of her earliest memories is singing songs by Erykah Badu while her brother beatboxed beside her. Family gatherings became her first stage, where she was pushed to perform, building both confidence and presence at a young age.

By the time she reached school, music had already become second nature. She joined choir early and later committed fully to show choir through middle and high school, even stepping away from sports to focus on her craft. Her dedication paid off—she went on to win first place at a national solo competition in Nashville, marking one of her first major milestones.

After high school, her path wasn’t linear. She briefly attended college but found herself unfulfilled, eventually returning home to refocus. During that time, she stayed close to music—performing at open mics, writing, and finding her voice. A turning point came when she received her first recording equipment, which led her to teach herself how to record and mix her own music. That independence would become a defining part of her career.

Determined to sharpen her skills, Sherrionn later earned a degree in Audio Engineering and Recording Arts, giving her full control over her sound. Around 2016, she began creating original music, building a foundation through consistency, experimentation, and self-discipline.

Her growth continued through programs like Donda’s House, a Chicago-based nonprofit co-founded by Rhymefest, where she gained performance experience and deeper insight into the industry. From there, she steadily built a name for herself in Chicago’s music scene, gaining attention through covers, remixes, and a strong online presence that caught the attention of major artists and producers.

Looking to expand, she eventually spent time in Atlanta, immersing herself in a new environment and evolving her sound. When she returned to Chicago in 2025, she came back more focused, more refined, and more in control of her artistry.

Musically, Sherrionn blends soul, emotion, and storytelling into a modern R&B sound. Her music often explores themes of love, growth, and self-discovery, delivered through strong vocals and honest lyrics that connect with listeners on a deeper level.

Today, she stands as a fully independent artist—singer, songwriter, and engineer—carving her own lane with intention. Her journey hasn’t been easy, shaped by personal challenges, industry obstacles, and moments of doubt. But through it all, her resilience and commitment to her craft continue to push her forward.
