Born in Canada but raised in Compton, California, Jay Worthy has carved out a path that’s both organic and influential in today’s hip-hop landscape. The rapper, A&R, songwriter, and producer has made a name for himself through authenticity, creative range, and genuine relationships that have carried him across eras and coasts.
Growing up, Jay Worthy’s earliest influences came from his father’s vinyl collection — classic records from Earth, Wind & Fire, The Stylistics, and Miles Davis shaped his ear for soulful melodies and live instrumentation. His journey began when he linked up with producer Sean House to form the duo LNDN DRGS, introducing the world to their signature “G-Funk meets luxury soul” sound. Worthy always wanted to rap over oldies-inspired production, paying homage to the eras that shaped his taste.
Although Compton raised him, New York was the first to embrace Jay Worthy’s sound. The late A$AP Yams and DJ A-Trak, founder of Fool’s Gold Records, were among the first to recognize his potential and push his music. That early support opened doors for collaborations with The Alchemist and eventually led him to connect with the Griselda camp — solidifying his status as a respected figure on both coasts.
His new double-disc album “Once Upon A Time” and “Once Upon A Time 2” represents the culmination of years of growth, grind, and storytelling. Entirely independent, the project is built on real connections — every feature, collaboration, and verse came from respect and love rather than industry politics. The album reflects a lifetime of experiences, blending songs made years ago with fresh, new energy.
“Once Upon A Time” is a celebration of timeless relationships and a showcase of the trust Jay Worthy has built in music. The album features an all-star lineup including Curren$y, Bun B, Wallie The Sensei, Wiz Khalifa, E-40, 03 Greedo, Eyedress, Larry June, Dave East, Ty Dolla $ign, DJ Quik, and more. Each track tells its own story — a snapshot of moments Worthy has lived, documented, and turned into musical history.
