The Rise of Monifa Goss: Talent, Passion and Purpose

Coming out of KingstonJamaicaMonifa Goss has been steadily building a reputation as one of the island’s promising young voices. With a sound that blends pop, R&B, dancehall, and reggae influences, the singer has carved out a lane that reflects both her culture and her personal journey.

Growing up in Kingston, Monifa was surrounded by music from an early age. She discovered her love for performing as a child, participating in choirs, talent shows, and competitions throughout her school years. Even then, it was clear that she possessed a natural ability for singing, along with the confidence to command a stage.

Despite her growing passion for music, Monifa originally had a very different career path in mind. During her time in secondary school, much of her focus was on science, and she once planned to pursue a career in medicine. But music continued to pull her in another direction. As she gained more experience performing, it became clear that the stage was where she truly belonged.

Her breakthrough moment came in 2016 when she competed in the popular Jamaican television talent show Digicel Rising Stars. At just 16 years old, Monifa quickly stood out for her powerful vocals and stage presence. Week after week she impressed judges and audiences, eventually finishing as the competition’s first runner-up. The exposure from the show introduced her to a national audience and helped launch her professional career.

Following the competition, Monifa continued sharpening her craft. She later enrolled at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, where she studied music performance and further developed her voice and artistry. During this time she also continued writing and recording her own music while performing across Jamaica.

As her career progressed, Monifa began releasing original records that showcased her versatility as an artist. Songs like “Rise” and “Release My Love” helped build a growing fanbase, while collaborations with artists such as Konshens and Yaksta expanded her reach within Jamaica’s music scene.

One of the biggest steps in her career came with the release of her debut EP “Eve.” The project blends dancehall rhythms with pop melodies and strong R&B vocals, reflecting the unique style she has developed over time. Inspired by themes of empowerment and strength, the EP was created to uplift women and encourage confidence and independence.

Monifa’s journey has not been without challenges. In 2023, she experienced the loss of her mother, a difficult moment that pushed her to work even harder in honor of her family and her dreams. Rather than slowing down, she used the experience as motivation to continue building her career and sharing her music with the world.

Today, Monifa Goss continues to grow as both a singer and songwriter, combining Jamaican musical roots with global influences. With her powerful voice, diverse sound, and determination to succeed, she represents a new generation of Caribbean artists pushing their culture onto the international stage.
