Coming out of South Central Los Angeles, with roots on the Eastside and in Watts, Nick Freeze has always been a creator at heart.
As the middle child in a large family, Nick grew up surrounded by love and support. Some of his earliest memories involve trying to keep up with his older brother, whether it was rapping, playing basketball, or simply following his lead. That environment gave him the freedom to be himself and dream without limitations.
“Even as a kid, I was always a creator, writer, and storyteller,” Nick explains. “Becoming an artist just felt natural.”
That passion turned into action in 2003 when he wrote his first rap. Since then, he hasn’t stopped. What started as a childhood hobby grew into a lifelong commitment to music and self-expression.
Growing up as a 90s baby, some of Nick’s earliest musical influences came from artists like Kris Kross and Will Smith. Because his parents weren’t big on letting him listen to rap filled with explicit lyrics, those artists became some of his first inspirations and helped shape his love for hip-hop.
When it comes to describing his music, Nick doesn’t limit himself to one specific sound.
“I don’t really have a sound, but I do have a style,” he says. “I just do my style on different sounds.”
His versatility comes from being a fan of multiple rap subgenres. Rather than staying in one lane, he enjoys blending different influences and elements into his music, creating a catalog that reflects his personality and creativity.
Outside of music, Nick spent much of his youth exploring Los Angeles. Growing up during an era when malls and movie theaters were the place to be, he spent plenty of time at spots like Fox Hills Mall, The Bridge, Del Amo Fashion Center, and South Bay Galleria. Those experiences helped shape his perspective and gave him memories that still influence his storytelling today.
These days, you’ll usually find him recording alongside J. Gray in Culver City, a studio environment that has become like a second home over the years.
Nick’s latest project, Frozen Over, is available now on all major streaming platforms. The release showcases his growth as an artist while giving listeners a glimpse into what’s next.
And according to Nick, there’s plenty more on the way.
“The EP was just a sample before the next album.”
As his brand continues to grow, he makes sure to acknowledge those who have helped along the journey. One person he gives special recognition to is Khrissy B.
“Not enough words can express the appreciation and gratitude,” he says. “She’s a really genuine and all-around dope individual. I’m beyond grateful to have someone like her in my corner in this business.”
With a lifelong passion for storytelling, a versatile approach to music, and a strong support system behind him, Nick Freeze continues to build something authentic—one record at a time.
