When did you start making music?
I started writing music around the age of 14. I recorded my first song at the age of 18
What city are you from?
I’m from Landover, MD
Artist you grew up listening to that inspired you to make music / inspired your sound?
I first got inspired to make music when I heard the Blueprint album. Jay Z’s wordplay and the way he told stories was just epic at the time. Over time, I started getting my inspiration and shaping my sound by listening to artists like Lil Wayne, OutKast, Bone Thugs and Harmony, and Pimp C. The Live. Love. ASAP album by ASAP Rocky surprisingly made a big impact also. Those were the days I really started to find my identity as an artist and started to see how I wanted to present myself to the world.
Tell us about your upbringing/childhood?
I grew up a lil different than most of my friends. My parents were in the military so I moved a lot growing up. I was born in Philly, two years later, I moved to San Diego, then Norfolk, Virginia, then finally landing in Maryland in 7th grade where I lived until I made the move to LA. Like most kids from the hood, I use to want to go to the NBA. But when I started writing music, my whole focus changed. It quickly became the only thing that was on my brain. I was downloading freestyles from Napster and studying cadences and wordplay. I would download instrumentals of my favorite songs to see if I could match the flow and the intensity. Me and my cousins started a group called Pitch Black Crew (PBC) in high school and really had the whole neighborhood pushing for us. When I really think about it, I have really dedicated over 15 years of my life to this.
Where was the local hang out spot growing up? And what studios did you record at the most from when you started till now ?
If we weren’t at the court playing ball, we would go to the Gogo to see our favorite bands on the weekends. It was like our club before we were able to actually get in the club. As far as the studio goes, I started recording at Listen vision studios at Howard University. As time progressed and I started getting more in to my craft, I started working with different engineers and producers at their studios. But Listen Vision was my home stu for a while.
If you could explain your own sound how would you ?
I would describe my sound as refreshing, relaxing, and pure. I don’t really compare myself but I have been compared to artist like J Cole, Old Dirty Bastard, and Bone Thugs and Harmony
What’s your most recent release ? And is there something you have coming out in the future you wanna mention to look out for ?
My most recent release is a visual to my song “Ball All Night”. The visual was released on 4/2 and the song will be released on platforms on 4/17.
This is my first release since my R&B banger “Autumn” that I released in 2023 so to get back in the groove, I will be releasing a couple of different songs throughout the summer to get ready for an ep in the fall.
