Pain, Survival, and Perseverance : The Rise of G Skino

Growing up in the trenches of TrentonNew JerseyG Skino experienced a childhood filled with both chaos and brotherhood. Despite the environment being rough, he and his friends still found moments to be kids, running around the neighborhood, laughing, and creating memories together. Before the streets became a major part of his life, sports gave him purpose. Football and basketball were more than hobbies — they were an escape.

But as the years passed, life around him became harder to navigate. By the age of 11, he was already dealing with heavy loss and trauma. One of the biggest turning points in his life came around 14 or 15 years old when he lost a close friend he considered a brother. That pain changed his outlook forever.

As the violence around him increased, even school no longer felt safe. G Skino eventually dropped out during 11th grade, explaining that he felt forced to carry a weapon for protection — not only at school, but even during football practice. The reality of his environment pushed him into survival mode at a young age.

During those difficult years, music became another outlet. Inspired by artists like G HerboLil DurkKing VonMeek Mill, and Lil Wayne, he connected deeply with raw storytelling and music that came from real experiences.

In 2017, he started making music with friends, mainly freestyling and having fun. At first, it was simply a way to pass time and express himself. But after surviving a shooting incident a few years later, everything changed. The situation made him realize how quickly life could be taken away, and from that moment on, he began taking music seriously.

Once he released his first single alongside Ken Love, the response was immediately positive. People connected with his honesty and energy. Then in 2020, his song “GO!” started gaining real traction and helped push his name further throughout his city and beyond.

Since then, G Skino has continued building his catalog and sharpening his sound. From his 2020 project No Remorse to his 2024 release Pled the Fifth, his music has documented both his struggles and his evolution as an artist.

Now, he continues to keep his foot on the gas with new music and bigger goals ahead. Fans can also check out his latest single “It Ain’t Safe” featuring Doe Boy, available now on all streaming platforms. on all streaming platforms
