The Evolution of PHORRKAST: A Story of Growth, Passion, and Persistence

Raised by a single mother, PHORRKAST’s journey began between Georgia and Texas before eventually returning to Atlanta, Georgia, where he proudly calls home today. Although his childhood came with its share of challenges, one thing remained constant—his passion for music and the arts. From an early age, he was drawn to singing, dancing, performing, and anything that allowed him to express his creativity.

Music quickly became more than just a hobby. PHORRKAST spent countless hours in the choir, taught himself how to play the piano, and began writing songs while he was still a child. Creating music became his way of understanding the world around him, and every experience helped shape the artist he would eventually become.

At just six years old, PHORRKAST wrote his very first song, “I Wanna Be a Star,” after being inspired by The Jacksons: An American Dream. Watching Michael Jackson’s journey sparked something inside him, and from that moment on, he knew he wanted to become an artist. He remembers writing the song the way he imagined Michael Jackson would perform it. That childhood dream never faded—it simply grew stronger with time.

Growing up, he found inspiration in some of music’s most influential artists, including Michael Jackson, Prince, TLC, Missy Elliott, André 3000, Bob Marley, Sade, and Rihanna. Rather than following one specific style, he admired each artist’s originality, creativity, and willingness to push boundaries. Those influences encouraged him to develop his own identity instead of fitting into a single genre.

That mindset became the foundation of PHORRKAST. He describes his sound as “gumbo” because it’s a blend of pop, R&B, hip-hop, reggae, rich harmonies, and melodic songwriting. Just like the weather is always changing, his music continues to evolve, which is also the inspiration behind the name PHORRKAST. Every release may sound different, but each one carries the same authentic signature that defines his artistry.

Most of PHORRKAST’s music has been recorded in Atlanta, where he’s continued to grow both creatively and personally. Before fully focusing on recording, he spent much of his teenage years in Texas performing with a dance group where he served as both the lead dancer and choreographer. Whether it was parties or local skating rinks, he embraced every opportunity to perform and sharpen his skills.

Back in Atlanta, Five Points became one of his favorite places to spend time with friends. Even without much money, they found joy simply being together and soaking in the energy of the city. Outside of those moments, he was usually at home writing songs, creating music video concepts, and constantly working to improve his craft. Looking back, creativity has always been at the center of his life.

After four years away from releasing new music, PHORRKAST is making his return with a brand-new single dropping on July 10. The release marks an exciting new chapter in his career and gives fans the opportunity to experience the next evolution of his artistry.

As he continues his journey, PHORRKAST gives special thanks to his mother for everything she’s done throughout his life, as well as his uncle Chris, a DJ who has always motivated him to keep pushing forward. He also wants to thank everyone who has supported him along the way, letting them know their love and encouragement have never gone unnoticed.
