For Meloyoung, music has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. Originally from Chicago and raised in Mississippi, his passion for singing and songwriting started at a young age. While most kids his age were listening to whatever was popular at the moment, 10-year-old Meloyoung found himself deeply inspired by the music of R&B superstar R. Kelly.
His friends often teased him for listening to music that seemed beyond his years, but he couldn’t help being drawn to the talent, songwriting, and vocal ability he heard. That early inspiration sparked something inside him and motivated him to begin writing music of his own.
At 19 years old, Meloyoung made a major life change when he left his adopted parents’ home and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2013 to be closer to his biological family. While adjusting to a new chapter in life, music remained a constant source of motivation.
Before officially pursuing a recording career, Meloyoung spent time performing at local karaoke nights in small neighborhood bars. Family and friends often told him he sounded like R. Kelly, and audiences seemed to agree. Night after night, people enjoyed hearing him perform, which helped build his confidence and sharpen his skills as a vocalist.
His musical style reflects many of the artists who inspired him growing up, including Usher, R. Kelly, Tyrese, and Avant. Their influence can be heard in his smooth vocals, melodic delivery, and focus on storytelling through R&B music.
In 2019, Meloyoung officially launched his music career with the release of his debut single, “One More Chance.” While the song didn’t receive the attention he had hoped for, he refused to give up. Instead, he returned to the studio and continued working on his craft.
His breakthrough came after releasing “Just The Beginning,” a song inspired by the George Floyd tragedy and the movement that followed. The record connected with listeners and gained significant attention online, generating strong support and impressive viewership on YouTube. The response gave Meloyoung the confidence he needed to continue pursuing music seriously and releasing new material.
Every song in his catalog has been recorded in Minnesota at the basement studio of his producer, engineer, and close friend, Robert O’Neal. More than just a collaborator, Robert has played a major role in helping shape Meloyoung’s sound. From melody and rhythm corrections to mixing and mastering, his work behind the scenes has helped bring Meloyoung’s vision to life.
Today, Meloyoung continues to build his catalog and connect with listeners through heartfelt R&B records. His latest release, “Hit Me Up,” showcases his growth as an artist, while fans are already anticipating his upcoming single, “Wetter,” featuring Angel.
As his journey continues, Meloyoung remains grateful for the people who have supported him along the way. He gives special recognition to Robert O’Neal, whose dedication and talent have helped elevate every record they’ve created together.
