Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Naffy G grew up in a city that is often misunderstood by people who have never experienced it. She makes it clear that Omaha is not a rural area. It is a city with its own culture, communities and challenges, and it was the place that shaped her early life.
For Naffy G, childhood was good until she turned 13.
That year changed everything.
Her older brother was murdered, leaving a loss that would have a lasting effect on her life. In his memory, she adopted the name Naffy G. What followed was a difficult period where she became involved in street life, fighting and other situations that quickly changed the direction of her teenage years.
Her legal troubles started early. At just 13 years old, she received her first gun charge and spent years in juvenile detention. From 13 to 16, she was in a detention center for minors before eventually receiving a three-year prison sentence at 17.
Those experiences became a major part of her story, but they were not the end of it.
Naffy G also survived being shot in the back while sitting in a car in front of her grandmother. Moments like that forced her to face the reality of the life she was living and the consequences that came with it.
Music had always been somewhere in the background.
She experimented with rapping when she was younger, but it wasn’t until 2025 that she decided to take music seriously. The influence was already in her family. Her mother was a rapper, and Naffy G grew up wanting to follow in her footsteps.
But another family situation gave her an even bigger reason to pursue music.
Her brother was sentenced to 169 years in prison. Naffy G felt that becoming successful through music could give her the financial means to help with his legal appeals and continue fighting for his freedom. Music became more than something she enjoyed. It became connected to her family and what she wanted to accomplish for them.
Then came “Ruth Chris.”
The song was inspired by her own experiences, her accomplishments and the resilient personality she had developed through everything she had been through. She decided to share that side of herself through music, and the response was immediate.
After posting a video of herself rapping the song, “Ruth Chris” began spreading organically. It started gaining attention on TikTok and Instagram without even having a formal music video in the beginning. The momentum continued to build, bringing new listeners to her music and eventually catching the attention of people within the industry.
A song that started with her simply putting herself out there turned into a breakthrough moment.
Today, Naffy G is also focused on a different part of her life. She speaks openly about her relationship with God and how much her faith has changed her priorities. After years of dealing with situations that could have taken her life in a completely different direction, she is choosing to move differently and remain loyal to her faith.
Her story includes loss, incarceration, survival, family and redemption. It also shows what can happen when someone decides that their past doesn’t have to determine what comes next.
