Emerging out of Flint, Michigan, Dirtywater Tashh is bringing her story to the music, drawing from her upbringing, life experiences, and the city that helped shape her. Her journey has not been easy, but her love for music has been there since childhood.
Growing up in Flint, Tashh experienced challenges that forced her to see life from a different perspective at an early age. With six siblings, her family faced frequent moves and periods of homelessness. She also witnessed difficult situations at home, including her mother cooking and selling meth. Despite the instability surrounding her childhood, Tashh emphasizes the strong bond she shares with her family.
Flint is known for its distinct culture and music scene, and its influence remains a part of Tashh’s identity. Even her artist name carries a connection to the city. Dirtywater Tashh comes from the way outsiders have referenced Flint because of its water crisis, turning a difficult part of the city’s history into a name that represents where she comes from.
Music has been a part of Tashh’s life since she was around five years old. As a child, she would make up her own songs, write lyrics, and perform for fun. Her creativity often brought laughter to her family, giving her an early outlet for self-expression before she ever considered pursuing music professionally.
Her transition into recording came later, when she began accompanying her child’s father to the studio. What started as simply being around the recording process eventually led to her stepping behind the microphone and hopping on a track herself. That experience helped open the door to taking her musical abilities more seriously.
Tashh’s major turning point came through an open-verse challenge on Instagram. Despite having a relatively small following at the time, her freestyle began gaining attention and eventually caught the eye of Detroit rapper Icewear Vezzo. After reaching out, she connected with Vezzo, who recognized her potential. Their connection led to conversations about management and more formal recording opportunities, helping move her from making music for fun to pursuing it as a career.
Now, Dirtywater Tashh is taking another step forward with the release of her first official single, “Doctor Visit,” available on all streaming platforms. The release marks an important milestone for an artist whose relationship with music began long before the industry took notice.
