Just Brittany’s story begins in Houston’s Fifth Ward, a neighborhood her family has called home for generations. Her roots trace back to 5300 Coke Street, where she grew up surrounded by the realities of a neighborhood that came with both community and struggle.
Fifth Ward was tough. Drug dealers, crack addicts and people without homes were part of the environment around her. Brittany was raised by a single mother who was doing her best to provide for four children. Growing up in those circumstances taught her early that she would have to find her own way.
Despite everything around her, Brittany excelled in school. She graduated high school at just 16 years old and finished as valedictorian. She had plans for herself and originally decided she would wait until she turned 18 before going to college.
But life had other plans.
Instead of going to college, Brittany became caught up in street life. Her sister introduced her to a lifestyle that quickly became appealing—the clubs, the cars, the men and the money. What started as exposure to a different world eventually became something she struggled to pull herself away from.
Then, on a random day at a beauty supply store, everything began to change.
Brittany was sitting in a car while her friend went inside shopping when a man approached her window trying to sell her a CD. At first, it was just another random encounter. But he sang for her right there, and his voice convinced her to buy the CD.
Later, Brittany noticed a phone number on the CD.
She called.
Knowing that she could sing herself, Brittany asked the man for help getting into the music industry. That conversation eventually led to them meeting, and he introduced her to the studio. They began recording songs together, and one of those records, “Call Me For That Good,” became the breakthrough that changed everything.
The song caught the attention of Cash Money, and Brittany was signed.
That was the moment her life began moving in a completely different direction.
From there, Just Brittany continued building her name and expanding her presence. She became part of VH1’s Signed, giving viewers a closer look at her journey and the realities of trying to make it in the music business. Along the way, she experienced opportunities that could have taken her career in completely different directions, including turning down a deal from Rick Ross.
Early in her career, she also worked with BeatKing, another important part of her development as an artist. As her music reached more people, Brittany found herself dealing with the opinions that come with being in the spotlight. When Rihanna released “Bitch Better Have My Money,” people even told Brittany she should sue, believing the situation was connected to her own music.
But Brittany continued moving forward.
Her music videos, including “Whole Lotta,” helped build her visual identity while her relationships within the culture became just as important as the records she was making. Her friendship with Jhonni Blaze became another part of her journey, while building a relationship with Kodak Black added another notable connection to her career.
Through all of the highs and lows, Brittany has also continued working on herself outside of music. Her fitness journey has become an important part of her life, showing another side of her discipline and personal growth.
Today, Just Brittany is stepping into another chapter with her new single, “Bad Bitch Summa.” It’s another record from an artist who has already lived through several different versions of herself.
From growing up in the struggle of Houston’s Fifth Ward, graduating high school as a 16-year-old valedictorian, getting caught up in street life, and finding her way into a recording studio through a chance encounter, Brittany’s story has never followed a straight line.
