Big Larue’s story starts in West Orlando, she grew up in an environment she describes as raw and uncut, a place filled with hustlers, strong personalities, and people learning how to make something out of what they had.
That upbringing played a major role in shaping who she is today.
Big Larue was raised by her mother and did not grow up in a traditional two-parent household. Her father spent most of her life incarcerated, and he later passed away, leaving them without the close relationship she may have otherwise had with him. Her mother eventually remarried, bringing a stable male presence into the home and giving Big Larue another perspective during her upbringing.
Her childhood was not without challenges. At one point, she was sent away for 18 months through a juvenile program. Those experiences forced her to grow up in ways that helped shape her personality and the way she carries herself today. Looking back, the situations she experienced as a young woman also prepared her for dealing with different personalities and high-pressure situations later in life, especially through her work in reality television.
Entertainment was always something she naturally connected with, but music was not where her journey originally started.
Big Larue first stepped into entertainment as a dancer. Around the same time she was entering the reality TV world, music began becoming a bigger part of her life. During her audition for her first reality TV show, she performed a freestyle that immediately caught people’s attention. After hearing her rap, people began asking if she was actually a rapper.
That moment opened another door.
Instead of rushing the process, Big Larue spent roughly two years experimenting with her sound, delivery, and overall direction. She was learning what worked for her and figuring out exactly what kind of artist she wanted to become.
Before the breakthrough, she continued building her catalog with records such as “Anita Baker Pussy,” “Spoiled Brat,” “Friends,” “Keep It Cute,” “FL To Cali,” and more. Each release gave listeners another look at her personality and helped establish her identity as an artist.
Then came “Walk Thru.”
Big Larue approached the record with intention. She knew she wanted to create something that could connect with people and understood the power of social media, specifically TikTok. Her strategy paid off as “Walk Thru” became a breakthrough moment, bringing more attention to her music and helping introduce her to a much larger audience.
For Big Larue, the journey has never been about simply becoming another artist. Her music is connected to where she comes from, what she has experienced, and the personality she developed along the way.
Now, she continues that momentum with her latest project, “Ruelette,” currently available on all streaming platforms. The project features nine tracks with no guest appearances, putting the focus completely on Big Larue, her sound, and her ability to carry a project on her own.
From the raw streets of West Orlando to reality television, from dancing to discovering her voice as a rapper, Big Larue has continued to evolve while staying true to the person her upbringing created.
Her story is still being written, but one thing is clear: Big Larue is building her own lane, one record and one move at a time.
