Young Ca$ton was raised in Brookhaven, Mississippi, in what he describes as a pretty typical childhood. Sports, neighborhood clicks, video games, music, and spending time with his people were all part of growing up. Life wasn’t perfect, but his family did everything they could to make sure he and his sister were good.
A lot of his younger years were spent simply kicking it with his homies, playing video games, listening to music, and dreaming about making it big one day. Those everyday moments might have seemed simple at the time, but they became part of the foundation for the person and artist he would eventually become.
Music entered the picture early. Around 12 years old, Young Ca$ton got his first laptop and microphone and started making music. What began at home eventually grew into something much bigger, giving him a creative outlet and a way to turn the things around him into his own sound.
His influences came from artists who knew how to make music feel personal while still connecting with the streets. Speaker Knockerz, Rich Homie Quan, and Young Dolph were among the artists he listened to growing up and looked to for inspiration. Their influence helped show him different ways to approach melodies, storytelling, and the energy behind a record.
Growing up, some of his favorite places to spend time weren’t complicated. He and his homies would post up at his friend Spill’s grandmother’s house or at his homie Bill’s house. That whole street became the block—the kind of environment where friendships were built, memories were made, and everyday life provided plenty of material to pull from.
Now based in Houston, Texas, Young Ca$ton has continued taking his music beyond the place where it started. His records have been recorded in different cities, including Jackson, Mississippi, Atlanta, and Houston, allowing him to experience different environments while continuing to develop his sound.
He describes his style as melodic trap, but there’s more to it than just a genre. Young Ca$ton describes the feeling as being like a rockstar, but still rooted in the streets. That combination gives him room to bring melody, energy, and street perspective together without forcing himself into one lane.
His latest release, The Ca$ton Story, gives listeners another look into where he is creatively right now. But he isn’t slowing down. This fall, Young Ca$ton plans to follow it up with a solo mixtape titled Due For A Win.
The title says a lot about where his mindset is. After years of dreaming about making it big, starting with a laptop and microphone at 12 years old, he is still pushing toward the same goal—just with more experience, more music, and a bigger vision.
Throughout the journey, Young Ca$ton has kept the people who helped him along the way close. He gives a shoutout to his cousin CTO, his dawg Tae Spill, and Smeagshotya, while also keeping the memory of his late friends Dmillz and Bill alive.
