Growing up in Mobile, Alabama, DDB Jaway learned early that life comes with challenges, but the people who stand beside you can make all the difference. Now 17 years old and preparing to graduate high school, the young rapper is building his own identity through music while carrying the legacy of someone who played a major role in his life.
Jaway was raised by parents who loved him but had their own responsibilities and circumstances to navigate. With his mother focused on college and his father involved in the streets, he spent much of his time with his grandfather and grandmother, whom the family calls Sheshe. His family did their best to provide for him and keep him away from trouble. Although he wasn’t raised in the suburbs, his upbringing wasn’t defined by the toughest conditions either. He experienced different sides of Mobile, spending time with his cousins, growing up wild, and finding himself in places where he probably wasn’t supposed to be. Whether he was hanging around the neighborhood, skating rinks, or the suburbs, his mother always made sure to keep him in check.
Music became more than just an interest when Jaway was 13. His cousin, DDB Yungn, also known as TreyH, was the person who inspired him to start rapping. After losing his cousin in a police-involved shooting, Jaway found a deeper purpose in pursuing music. He wanted to honor his cousin’s memory, continue his legacy, and prove something to himself and the people around him. Instead of letting the pain sit inside, he began putting his emotions into his songs, using music to express the love, aggression, and hurt that came with his experiences.
Growing up, Jaway listened to a wide range of artists, with Juice WRLD and YoungBoy Never Broke Again among his biggest influences. Their different approaches to music helped shape his perspective as he developed his own sound. He describes himself as a Southern rapper, but believes his style has something different to offer. Rather than trying to fit into one category, he draws from his experiences and emotions to create music that reflects who he is.
Jaway officially released his first single, “Save The Day,” on October 10, 2024. Before taking his music into a professional studio, he recorded everything on his phone, working with what he had and continuing to develop his craft. That changed in 2026 when he began recording with Ant at Music 247, a studio known for working with artists throughout Mobile. The move marked a new chapter in his development, giving him the opportunity to bring his ideas to life with a more professional sound.
His latest project, Mr. DDB, represents another important step in his journey. With a sequel already in the works, Jaway is continuing to build on the foundation he has established while keeping his cousin’s legacy close to the music. He plans to release the music video for “Mr. DDB 2” on Halloween, followed by the Mr. DDB 2 album sometime afterward.
Still balancing music with his senior year at Mary G. Montgomery High School, Jaway is working toward his future while learning what it takes to turn his passion into something bigger. At an age when many are still figuring out their direction, he has found a reason to keep going and a story he wants the world to hear.
As he continues to grow as an artist, DDB Jaway remains grateful for the people who have supported him from the beginning. He gives credit to everyone who stood by him, believed in him, and stayed around when success wasn’t guaranteed. He doesn’t need to name them individually because they already know who they are.
