The Story Behind The Artist: The Journey Of Kyzun Clay

Emerging out of Baldwin, Louisiana, Kyzun Clay is one of the most talented artist out the city.

Growing up, Kyzun experienced a regular lifestyle of going back and forth between his mother and father before eventually living with his grandmother until he graduated high school. During those years, he began discovering his interest in music, although becoming a rapper was not necessarily something he had planned. Around the age of 16 or 17, he started experimenting with rapping. It was his sister and little brother who encouraged him to take it seriously after hearing what he could do. Their reactions gave him the confidence to keep going and see where his talent could take him.

Unlike artists who grow up studying one particular rapper, Kyzun’s connection to music came from listening to a little bit of everything. He never had one favorite artist who directly influenced his direction. Instead, his wide-ranging taste in music helped shape his interest in creating records of his own. Now, he is focused on developing a sound that feels natural to him rather than trying to imitate somebody else.

Describing his style, Kyzun points toward the down-south Louisiana sound associated with the 337 and 225 areas. While he recognizes the regional influence in his music, he also understands the importance of having an identity of his own. Creating a sound that people can recognize as Kyzun Clay is one of the main things he continues to work toward as he develops as an artist.

When it comes to recording, Kyzun has spent time working at Real Music Studios, where he built connections that he still maintains today. More recently, he has been recording at Dreams Studios and another location he prefers to keep under wraps. He describes that studio as his favorite place to record, especially when he is working on the type of high-energy music he enjoys making.

Outside of music, Kyzun keeps his circle and surroundings close. He is not the type to hang out just anywhere, preferring to spend time at his grandmother’s house or in familiar places where he feels comfortable. When he does get out, Lafayette has a few spots he enjoys, including Telly’s. For him, being comfortable in his environment matters more than constantly being outside.

His latest release, “Earn Not Giving,” is another project for listeners to check out, with several tracks he believes deserve attention. However, Kyzun has more music worth exploring beyond his latest release. Songs like “Benz Girl,” “Do You,” “Glock,” and “Flagg” offer listeners more opportunities to get familiar with his catalog and the direction he is taking with his music.

As Kyzun Clay continues to grow, he remains focused on putting in his own work and building something that reflects his efforts. When discussing the people who have helped him along the way, he acknowledges that much of his progress has come from the work he has put in himself, while also recognizing the few individuals who have supported him and helped him navigate the music industry. He has not forgotten those connections, and he looks forward to showing his appreciation as his career reaches new heights.
