Emerging out of Bluffton, South Carolina, J. Cartier is an artist, songwriter, and executive producer building his own lane in music. From starting a clothing brand as a teenager to executive producing his first record at 15, his journey has been driven by creativity, ambition, and a desire to create something his hometown could be proud of.
Growing up in Bluffton, J. Cartier felt there was a lack of opportunities for young people looking to build something of their own. With a limited entrepreneurial and music scene, he knew early on that he wanted to do something different. His goal was to create something that would give people his age a reason to support their hometown and take pride in where they came from.
Music had always been a part of his life, but it wasn’t until he was 15 that he began to see it as a potential career. He started by managing local artists before executive producing and arranging his first track in September 2022. That experience changed everything. He discovered a passion for bringing artists together, recognizing their chemistry, and creating records that brought out the best in each artist.
Around that same time, he launched his clothing brand, LoneRanger. Through the brand, he connected with NFL Pro Bowler Rashid Shaheed, who modeled for the clothing line, and received a co-sign from Pasto Flocco, an artist signed to Lil Tecca’s label. Inspired by Pasto Flocco, J. Cartier built LoneRanger into another creative outlet that reflected his entrepreneurial mindset.
As he continued working behind the scenes, he began putting more of his own experiences into his music. Songwriting gave him a way to express himself, and seeing people connect with his lyrics motivated him to keep going. He continued developing his sound while collaborating with artists like PradaBagShawty and expanding his work as an artist, songwriter, and executive producer.
Eventually, J. Cartier realized that music was where he wanted to put all his focus. Having built LoneRanger while still in high school, he decided to transition the brand into merchandise for his music. Since making that move, he has had three merchandise drops sell out, a milestone that means even more knowing he built everything from the ground up.
After graduating high school, J. Cartier made the move to Atlanta. He wanted to put himself in an environment where he could grow, network, attend shows, and connect with people who shared his ambition. Since arriving, he has met industry figures like Drumma Boy and 2sDxrtball and filmed for Baby Kia.
While Atlanta has given him new opportunities, Bluffton will always be home. He remains grateful for the people who supported him from the beginning and recognizes that their belief in him helped make his journey possible. Moving away was never about leaving his hometown behind. It was about putting himself in a position to learn, grow, and take his career to the next level.
Finding His Sound
J. Cartier’s musical influences stretch across several generations and subgenres of hip-hop. He remembers listening to Kodak Black’s “No Flockin” at just eight years old, drawn to the energy and confidence behind the record. From there, he became a fan of artists like Famous Dex, Cash Carti, and Lil Uzi Vert, who remains his favorite rapper today.
As his taste in music developed, he explored everything from lyrical hip-hop to Chicago drill. Artists like Joey Bada$$, MF DOOM, LA Capone, Lil Durk, and 600Breezy helped shape his appreciation for different sounds and approaches to music.
His interest in the underground scene grew as he got older, with artists like Slayr, Tana, PZ, Drqhardy, Ayerp, and TJAYY standing out to him. He has always appreciated artists who aren’t afraid to experiment and create something different.
That wide range of influences has played a major role in how he approaches music today. As an executive producer and songwriter, he doesn’t feel limited to one genre. Whether it’s R&B, underground rap, or something more experimental, he enjoys exploring different sounds and finding the right direction for each record.
R&B has become a major part of his own catalog. In 2025, at just 17 years old, he released his first R&B album, Midnight Confessions, which has since surpassed 200,000 streams. He followed it with his second release, Almost Famous, Always Yours, in May 2026.
His songwriting often comes from personal experiences, relationships, and the things he has been through. He wants people to connect with his music emotionally while continuing to experiment with production and bring different artists together.
Beyond the Music
Growing up, basketball was another major part of J. Cartier’s life. He spent much of his time playing sports and being around his friends, continuing to play basketball through his senior year of high school.
The game gave him lasting memories with his brothers and teammates, and it remains an important part of his life outside of music. This past summer, he coached a tournament under the team name J. Cartier Elite, bringing together former teammates and friends for what he described as a final run together.
It was an opportunity to reconnect with the people he grew up with and revisit something that had played such a big role in his childhood.
What’s Next for J. Cartier?
J. Cartier recently released his first club record with rising R&B singer Emxnii. Written by J. Cartier and co-produced alongside Yvngdezz and Coupe, the record marks a different direction from some of his previous R&B releases.
He also has plenty of new music on the way. He is preparing to release a self-titled underground rap project, followed by his first trap album with SheLoveNali.
The chemistry between J. Cartier and Nali has made the upcoming project one of his most anticipated releases. From eight-hour studio sessions to recording all night at an Airbnb, the two have created a body of work that reflects their connection and creative process.
The journey has also included memorable experiences, including a trip to New York during a snowstorm that gave J. Cartier his first experience seeing snow. With behind-the-scenes footage and vlogs documenting the process, he plans to give fans a closer look at the moments that went into making the album.
As he continues to build his career, J. Cartier remains focused on creating music that reflects who he is while staying open to new sounds and opportunities. His journey has already taken him from managing artists in Bluffton to building a catalog, developing his own merchandise, and establishing connections in Atlanta.
Through it all, he has stayed grounded in the people and experiences that helped shape him.
J. Cartier is grateful for his brothers, family, hometown, and everyone who has supported him since he was 15 years old. Whether it’s listening to his music, showing up to events, or supporting his merchandise, he never takes that support for granted.
