Raised on Gospel, Inspired by Hip-Hop: The Story of Lioness of YAH

Emerging out of San Bernardino, California, Lioness of YAH is an independent artist whose musical journey began long before she stepped into a recording booth. Raised in a Christian home, she grew up surrounded by faith, discipline, and music. Today, she brings those early influences into a sound that blends R&B and hip-hop while remaining true to her own identity.

Growing up, Lioness of YAH was raised by a mother who took her faith seriously and maintained a strict household. Church was a major part of her upbringing, and much of her childhood was spent participating in the music ministry. Between church rehearsals and school band, music became a regular part of her life.

At just six years old, she received her first drum set and began exploring music. By the age of 10, she was writing her own material. What started as a childhood interest gradually developed into something more, and by 18, she had become a recording artist.

Her early musical influences came from the gospel music she grew up listening to, including Kirk Franklin and the Clark Sisters. As she began discovering music on her own, her taste expanded to include artists like Missy Elliott, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Jay-Z.

Those different sounds helped shape her appreciation for music and creativity. From gospel’s powerful delivery to the energy and individuality of hip-hop, she developed an understanding of music that continues to influence her work today.

When it comes to describing her own sound, Lioness of YAH doesn’t try to fit into a particular category. She describes her music as an eclectic mixture of R&B and hip-hop, created in her own way. Rather than following a formula, she focuses on making music that reflects her identity and artistic vision.

Creating in Her Own Space

As an artist, engineer, and producer, Lioness of YAH has built a creative process that allows her to work independently. She records most of her music at home, where she feels the most comfortable and has the freedom to create in her own environment.

Her experience behind the boards gives her a different perspective on making music. Being involved in both the creative and technical sides allows her to develop records on her own terms while continuing to explore her sound.

Her latest project, OWE YOU NOTHIN, marks another step in that journey. The project will be released exclusively through her own platform, Loy Collection, making it the only place listeners will be able to stream the project.

With more music already in the works, she has no plans of slowing down. Lioness of YAH says fans can expect several projects to arrive in 2027, giving listeners plenty to look forward to as she continues developing her catalog.

Faith, Family, and the Journey Ahead

For Lioness of YAH, music has always been connected to something greater than herself. Her upbringing gave her a foundation rooted in faith, and that foundation continues to play an important role in her life and career.

She remains grateful for the people who have supported her throughout her journey, especially her listeners, whose encouragement continues to motivate her to create. She also gives a special shoutout to her engineer and friend, AnaviEl The Servant, for being part of her journey.
