Coming up in Aurora, North Carolina, Kodell Perro describes his childhood as pretty cool. He was the “cool fat kid” who could crack jokes, keep people laughing and, as he puts it, sometimes take your lady off you. Even at a young age, Kodell felt different from the people around him. Instead of trying to fit in, he learned to sit back, watch everything around him and play the scenes accordingly.
Music eventually became his own lane.
Kodell started getting serious about making music around 17 or 18 years old. Before that, his experience was mostly freestyling in the car with his bro. He had never really recorded himself on an actual track until the COVID era, when a homie got some studio equipment together and Kodell recorded his first official song.
But the real turning point came toward the end of 2025.
That’s when Kodell decided to take complete control of his sound by learning how to engineer and produce his own music. Less than a year into that journey, he has already recorded more than 100 tracks, all from his own apartment. He would wake up early before work, come home after working two jobs and stay up late recording. Then he would do it all over again the next morning.
That dedication has become a major part of Kodell Perro’s story.
His music is influenced by several different sounds and generations. He names Curren$y, Playboi Carti, Juvenile, Bun B and Los among some of his biggest inspirations. For Kodell, music has too many layers to limit yourself to one sound. He finds inspiration in different lanes, different artists and different flavors, taking pieces from each and turning them into something that feels like his own.
And when it comes to describing his own sound, Kodell keeps it simple: Money Making Playa Music.
His music is made to ride to, count money to, go get money to and turn up to. He brings the hard-hitting 808s for those looking to get lit, while also creating club records for people who want to move. Tracks like “The Perro Nerro” show another side of his sound, giving listeners something they can have fun with.
Kodell believes it’s the type of music the game has been missing.
What makes his journey even more personal is that he has built everything from home. Every song he has today was recorded on the same laptop, using a couple of different microphones and a whole lot of effort. While working two jobs for the past three years, he still made time to record every single day.
He doesn’t wait for the perfect situation.
He gets home and records. He wakes up and records. Even when he’s away from the microphone, he’s already picturing himself behind it, taking his music to the next level. That vision, along with the commitment he has shown, is what keeps him moving forward.
Kodell was never really the type to be outside all the time. He says he was usually on his own turf with some money in his pocket and his hunny beside him, focused on getting to it. But whenever he did get out for some fresh air, downtown Greenville was the spot. Sup Dogs and Still Life were two places he would find himself.
Now, he’s building a catalog that continues to grow.
Fans can look out for titles like “SpidA,” “Es El Perro,” “Holiday Season,” “Ya Mama!” and, of course, “The Perro Nerro.” Kodell is constantly working and says he tries to drop a new tape every two weeks.

For Kodell Perro, this is still the beginning.
From the cool kid growing up in Aurora to the independent artist recording more than 100 songs from his apartment, he has built his journey through consistency, sacrifice and belief in himself. He’s doing the engineering, recording the music and creating his own sound while balancing two jobs and everything else life brings.
