Killa Twan’s story is rooted in the heart of Watts, California, where he was raised in Nickerson Gardens. Growing up there came with challenges that shaped his mindset early. He describes Nickerson Gardens as a place with limited opportunities, where making a way out felt nearly impossible for many.
Much of what Killa Twan learned about navigating the streets came from watching his father and older brothers. Like many young people growing up in similar environments, he found himself observing hustlers and gang members, studying the people around him to understand how to survive.
Music entered his life at an early age and quickly became more than just a hobby. Killa Twan has been making music since he was around eight years old. He used two radios—one to play instrumentals and the other to record himself rapping. That raw passion laid the foundation for everything that followed. Before becoming known as Killa Twan, one of his first rap names was Young Bandit.
As his journey continued, Killa Twan built relationships that would help shape his career, including a meaningful connection with Nipsey Hussle. The two met through a mutual friend and connected immediately, forming a bond rooted in mutual respect and shared understanding.
Over the years, Killa Twan developed a sound that feels authentic to his upbringing—raw, honest, and deeply connected to the streets that raised him. His 2021 project, KiLLAFORNiA, became a breakout release and helped define his artistic identity. The project balanced California’s beauty with its darker realities, with standout records like “Do My Thang,” “6 Feet,” and “Favorite.”
He followed that with A Watts Tale in 2022, a project that revealed a more personal side of his artistry. Rather than relying solely on street anthems, Killa Twan leaned into storytelling, giving listeners a deeper look into his life, environment, and perspective. Many fans consider it one of his strongest and most complete bodies of work.
Killa Twan continues to evolve, most recently teaming up with Figg Newton for the collaborative EP EASTSIDE WESTSIDE, a project that further expands his catalog while staying true to his roots.
Throughout his career, Killa Twan has delivered records that continue to resonate with listeners. Songs like “B4 The Smoke,” “110 Freeway,” “Imperial,” “I Got It,” and “Murda Man” have helped build his reputation, while “HU$$LE iN the HOUSE” stands as a heartfelt tribute to Nipsey Hussle and the lasting impact he left behind.
