Get familiar with Cotto, better known as BeatsByCotto, a Billboard-charting producer and engineer born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, and raised in Yakima, Washington.
Growing up, Cotto stayed active and involved in just about everything. He played soccer, ran track, and competed on the wrestling team. While none of those activities became a true passion, they kept him busy and taught him discipline. Music was always present in his life through his family and Puerto Rican heritage, but creating music for himself didn’t happen until much later.
In 2020, everything changed.
Inspired by artists and producers such as Mac Miller, Kanye West, Pi’erre Bourne, and others, Cotto began taking music seriously during the pandemic. What started as curiosity quickly became something much deeper. For the first time, he felt like he had found his purpose and discovered what he was meant to do.
Determined to chase that feeling, Cotto took a leap of faith and landed an internship at Sage Studios in Seattle, Washington. The experience became a turning point in his career. It was there that he developed his sound, found his direction, and built the foundation for the producer and engineer he is today. His growth eventually led to a full-time position at the same studio.
Everything from his upbringing, influences, and experiences helped shape the sound listeners hear now. His production style blends sample-based music with hard-hitting 808s while maintaining the versatility to work across multiple genres and artists.
Over the years, Cotto has built an impressive résumé, working with artists including LaRussell, 1UpTee, 03 Greedo, BigXthaPlug, Veeze, Futuristic, Doe Boy, Mafi D, Afroman, DC2Trill, Rell Moore, the MBK Boys, and many more.
One of his career highlights came when LaRussell freestyled over one of his beats during an appearance on The Breakfast Club, giving Cotto’s production national exposure on one of hip-hop’s most recognized platforms.
Beyond producing records, Cotto continues to create opportunities for artists and fans through his own music vault and radio show, Vibes99. Fans can also hear more of his work on Live From the 206 alongside LaRussell.
Today, Cotto continues building momentum as a respected producer and engineer with credits that stretch across the independent and mainstream music scenes.
