Lil Bean’s Journey of Loss, Growth, and Success

Growing up in the Geneva Towers housing projects of San Francisco, Lil Bean’s story is one of resilience, responsibility, and determination. Long before he became one of the Bay Area’s most recognizable artists, he was a young kid navigating life in a neighborhood that shaped both his character and his music.

One of the biggest influences in Lil Bean’s life was his father, a well-known figure in the community who was respected as both a leader and a protector. His father’s presence left a lasting impact on everyone around him, especially Lil Bean. However, tragedy struck when his father passed away while Lil Bean was just 11 years old. The loss changed everything.

With his father gone, Lil Bean was forced to mature faster than most kids his age. He stepped into the role of the man of the house, carrying responsibilities that many adults struggle to handle. Those experiences would later become a major source of inspiration in his music, giving his lyrics authenticity and emotional depth.

During his teenage years, Lil Bean attended Thurgood Marshall Academic High School. Like many young athletes, he dreamed of making it to the Division I basketball level. Basketball was a major part of his life, and much of his time was spent on the court competing and sharpening his skills. But as he got older, he began to recognize that music offered another path—one that could help him create opportunities not only for himself but also for his family.

Music had always been around him. Through his father, Lil Bean grew up listening to Bay Area legends such as Mac Dre and Messy Marv. Their influence helped shape his understanding of storytelling, authenticity, and what it meant to represent where you come from.

Around 2017 and 2018, Lil Bean began recording his own music. A major turning point came when his cousin, who was already established in the local rap scene, invited him to record at his house. Those early studio sessions helped him develop his sound and build a growing buzz throughout San Francisco before he had even officially released much music.

By the end of 2018, Lil Bean’s momentum was undeniable. Songs like “Side of Me” started gaining attention, and for the first time he realized music could become more than just a passion—it could become a career. More importantly, it could become a way to provide for the people who mattered most.

His profile continued to rise through his involvement with the Nasty Campaign album project, which helped introduce him to an even larger audience within the San Francisco rap scene. Rather than slowing down, Lil Bean doubled down on his work ethic.

In 2019, he continued building momentum with a steady stream of releases. Tracks like “Down the Ride” quickly reached over 100,000 views, while records such as “Take Risk” further solidified his growing reputation. His consistency became one of his greatest strengths.

Over the next several years, Lil Bean established himself as one of the hardest-working artists in the Bay Area. By the end of 2022, he had released ten projects of his own, including fan favorites like Therapy SessionsStill Campaignin’4THECULTUREHoodHero, and several others. Each project reflected different chapters of his journey while continuing to strengthen his connection with listeners.

Entering 2026, Lil Bean continued pushing his career forward with 1 Umbrella: The Family Edition, a collaborative album alongside Lil Yee, ZayBang, ALLBLACK, and 22nd Jim. The project showcased the chemistry between some of Northern California’s most influential artists while highlighting the sense of unity that has become a major part of Lil Bean’s movement.

From the Geneva Towers housing projects to becoming a respected voice in Bay Area rap, Lil Bean’s journey is a testament to perseverance. Through loss, responsibility, and relentless dedication, he transformed life’s challenges into motivation. Today, his music continues to tell the story of where he comes from while inspiring the next generation to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles in their path.
