Charleston, South Carolina artist Trim is proving that purpose can be found in the most unexpected places. At just 20 years old, she has already built a name for herself with a growing catalog of records, major collaborations, and a social media presence that has connected with millions.
Growing up in Charleston, Trim was surrounded by hip-hop and R&B. Artists like Aaliyah, Lil Kim, and Da Brat helped shape her musical taste and inspired her confidence. Despite her love for music, she never imagined herself becoming a rapper. For a long time, she thought her future would be in beauty, focusing on hair and makeup rather than recording songs.
Everything changed when she began experimenting with music. Instead of growing up as a rapper, Trim started by recording freestyles on her phone. What began as something casual quickly turned into something much bigger. As she searched for direction in her life, music became the outlet that gave her purpose.
“I got into music because I wanted to find a purpose,” she explains. “I knew I wanted to be bigger than the program. I was working and realized I needed to find my true purpose and become the woman I am today.”
She eventually came to the realization that beauty wasn’t what truly made her happy. Looking for something different, she decided to jump on a beat and challenge herself creatively. The moment she did, she found something that felt natural.
That decision not only introduced her to music but also helped her develop confidence and self-awareness. Trim embraces independence and believes in building her own path. While she welcomes advice, she values authenticity and believes people should take the time to understand her before making assumptions.
Her mindset has also helped her handle criticism. Rather than allowing negative comments to discourage her, she uses them as motivation.
“People look at hate comments and get sad; I get motivated,” she says. “It’s not listening, it’s learning. How can you elevate if you take stuff to heart?”
That mentality helped fuel her rise. After making a footprint on TikTok, often referred to as the “clock app,” she realized music could become something much bigger. Her content connected with audiences across the platform, helping her build a community that would eventually grow to more than 10 million likes.
In 2025, her breakout record “BOAT” took off on TikTok and quickly caught the attention of artists including Tyla, Rico Nasty, and Baby Tate. The momentum from the song opened new doors and introduced her to a wider audience.
Since then, Trim has continued expanding her reach, collaborating with artists such as Vayda, YK Neice, Monaleo, Pooh Shiesty, Bankroll Ni, Bri3, and Bunna B. Along the way, she has released standout records including “Nobody (Remix),” “Coconut Water,” “GUAPO,” “BOAT,” and “TRUMP THE BILL,”helping establish her unique voice in today’s rap landscape.
As her career continues to grow, Trim remains deeply connected to her roots. The people she grew up around and the Charleston music scene continue to play an important role in her journey.
“Continuing to work with the people that I was surrounded by. Charleston artists — I will always pay homage to where I came from,” she says. “Who I knew before I came here, that’s what keeps me humble, sane. That’s a little peace of mind.”
