Emerging from Detroit, Michigan, Rich Chris represents a lifestyle built on confidence, business, and knowing where you come from. Originally from the Westside of Detroit, also known as DLA, Rich Chris grew up with a strong foundation, surrounded by family, different walks of life, and a wide range of musical influences that helped shape the person and artist he is today.
Growing up in a two-parent household, he was raised with values and never went without the essentials. He stayed fresh, learned the importance of carrying himself properly, and understood the value of having a solid foundation. As the neighborhood began to change, his family relocated to Southfield, giving him another perspective on life outside the environment where he started.
Music was always a major part of his household. From Motown and R&B to West Coast, New York, and Southern rap, he grew up listening to different sounds and styles. His upbringing also exposed him to family members who took different paths in life, from those doing things the right way to those involved in the streets. Experiencing both sides helped him develop a well-rounded perspective and the ability to move through different environments without losing himself.
Rich Chris began making music around the age of 14. In the early days, he recorded freestyles using the sound recorder on his Windows PC, put together Jackin’ for Beats mixtapes, burned CDs, and passed them around to his friends. It was a simple beginning, but it gave him an opportunity to experiment with music and share his creativity with the people around him.
Eventually, he stepped away from rapping to focus on the business side of the industry and managing artists. That experience gave him a different understanding of what it takes to build a career beyond the music itself. Around 2016–2017, he picked up the pen again and has continued developing his craft ever since.
When it comes to his influences as an artist, Rich Chris credits Lil Wayne, The Notorious B.I.G., and Pimp C for inspiring his approach to rapping. However, his vision of success was also shaped by entrepreneurs in hip-hop. Birdman, Master P, and Sean “Diddy” Combs stood out to him because they understood how to turn their musical success into business opportunities and build something bigger than themselves.
That combination of lyrical inspiration and entrepreneurial thinking plays a major role in how Rich Chris approaches his career today.
Describing his sound as “Real Detroit Player Shit,” he represents a lifestyle that goes beyond the typical conversations about street money. For him, it’s about traveling, driving nice cars, being around beautiful women, staying fresh, enjoying the rewards of hard work, and making as much money as possible. But beneath that lifestyle is a clear understanding of priorities.
Family and responsibilities come first. Standing on business, knowing right from wrong, and carrying yourself with respect are all part of his code. It’s about enjoying life while remaining accountable for your actions and never compromising who you are.
His connection to Detroit also goes beyond the music. Growing up, Rich Chris remembers an era when everybody was outside, from hotel, house, and hall parties to block parties, Belle Isle, and the clubs. Star Theatre was another major hangout spot during those years. It was a time when people knew how to make something out of nothing and create memorable experiences regardless of what they had.
Those experiences remain part of his identity, reflecting the energy, culture, and lifestyle that helped shape him.
Today, Rich Chris records his music in-house at The Chill Vibe Studios and NCR World Studios, keeping his creative process close to home. His latest release, Chill Vibes With Something Thick, adds to his growing catalog as he continues to build momentum.
Looking ahead, he is working on his next solo album, enjoying the creative process in the booth, and putting together new visuals to give listeners more ways to connect with his music. He is also teaming up with his brother, Smoove Corleone, on a new Finesse Godz album, bringing another chapter to their musical journey.
Through his experiences as an artist and his time working on the business side of the industry, Rich Chris has developed a perspective that extends beyond making records. He understands the importance of enjoying the lifestyle, staying connected to his roots, and building something that can last.
As he continues to work on new music and expand his vision, Rich Chris remains focused on moving forward while keeping the values that shaped him at the center of everything he does.
He gives thanks to God and his family for keeping him grounded and motivated, along with the entire NCR Squad, Fab5ive, Big3, and his Elite Money family. He also extends appreciation to everyone who has streamed his music, liked or shared a post, or shown genuine support along the way.
And, of course, he gives a special shoutout to Artist Connect for taking the time to share his story.
