Emerging out of Oxon Hill, RockThaMicDice is a true homegrown hidden gem with a story rooted in family, different environments, and a lifelong connection to music.
Growing up, RockThaMicDice had what he describes as a well-balanced childhood. Adopted at birth, he was raised as an only child in a single-parent household. Although he grew up in Oxon Hill, he spent time in Hopewell, Virginia, where his family is from, while also traveling to New York City during the summers to spend time with other family. His father was living in North Carolina, giving him the opportunity to experience different places and different sides of his family while growing up.
A lot of his childhood was spent outside around RiverTown, where the movie theater, outlets, restaurants, and surrounding spots gave him plenty of places to hang out and create memories. Those everyday experiences became part of the environment that helped shape who he would eventually become.
Music was always around RockThaMicDice, even before he decided to pick up the mic himself. He grew up listening to artists like Tupac Shakur and Big L, while also being influenced by Jazz and 70s and 80s R&B. Those different sounds would eventually become part of the foundation for his own musical identity.
It wasn’t until around 15 years old that RockThaMicDice started rapping. By 16, he and a friend had taken things a step further, building an in-home studio where they would take turns recording their music. What started as something they were doing for themselves would become the beginning of a deeper commitment to music and his own journey as an artist.
Now, RockThaMicDice is continuing to build on those early beginnings with his latest album, “GLITTER & GOLD,” released this year and currently available on all streaming platforms. The nine-track project features MerkGenuis, IAmJahné, Taylodavis, Big Blizzo, and Shafae.
Key songs off the album include “Elevate,” “Can’t Go,” “Success I Crave,” and “Televised,” with plenty more to discover throughout the project.
