Kentrell Blunt, better known by his stage name Kizzy Blunt, has a story built on resilience, faith, and perseverance. Born in 1991 in Uptown New Orleans, one of the city’s toughest neighborhoods, his journey started with obstacles before he even had a chance to speak. Doctors warned his 14-year-old mother that he might be deaf and blind, but he beat the odds and grew into a healthy child, proving from the very beginning that he was destined to overcome adversity.
Growing up in New Orleans during the 1990s, a time when the city carried the reputation as the nation’s murder capital, Kizzy was fortunate to have something many around him didn’t—a strong two-parent household. As the oldest of four siblings, he was raised by a hardworking father and a determined mother whose strength shaped his confidence, character, and morals. Even with that foundation, trouble found him at a young age. A close call in elementary school nearly changed the course of his life, becoming the wake-up call that pushed him toward a better path despite living in an environment that was both soulful and unforgiving.
Sports quickly became a major part of his life. During his first 13 years in New Orleans, he built a name for himself as an athlete and had dreams of reaching the NFL. Everything changed when Hurricane Katrina forced his family to relocate to Houston, Texas. Leaving behind everything he knew was one of the biggest turning points in his life. With so many emotions bottled up, he turned to pen and paper, using writing as an outlet to process everything he was feeling.
Music had already become part of his life years earlier. Around the age of eight, Kizzy began writing songs after growing up surrounded by music inside his family’s home. His grandmother sang at countless funerals throughout New Orleans and was one of the city’s earliest gospel praise team members. Her gift carried through the family, with his aunts constantly singing around the house. Inspired by that environment, Kizzy decided to write his first rap, titled “Lover Boy,” after hearing LL Cool J’s classic “I Need Love.”
As a kid, he watched artists like LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, OutKast, Jill Scott, Missy Elliott, DMX, Erykah Badu, Nas, JAY-Z, Luther Vandross, Linkin Park, Snoop Dogg, and The Hot Boys on television, believing one day he would be standing where they stood. That belief never faded, and those artists helped shape the sound he creates today.
Kizzy calls his style “R&BRap,” blending smooth melodies with lyrical rap. He describes it as sounding like “a smooth light-skinned fella talking so smooth you don’t know if he’s gonna take your girl or rob ya,” before laughing and reminding everyone that’s only the music. In reality, he prides himself on being down-to-earth, loyal, and someone who moves with genuine intentions and strong values.
Much of his music has been crafted in Houston alongside a trusted team he personally selected. Engineers Kidd and Joseph of Space City Recording Studios, Ceddidit of Didit Media Studios, and Heatwave Johnny of 713 Studios have all helped bring his vision to life. Producers Dre Boi Beats from Oakland and Juice Jonny from Houston have also played key roles in developing the signature sound he’s spent years perfecting. For Kizzy, creating great music isn’t just about talent—it’s about working with people who truly understand his process and vision.
Outside of the studio, Kizzy balances his music career with a 9-to-5 job that helps fund his independent journey. When he’s not working or recording, he’s often around Houston’s nightlife, staying visible while keeping a low profile. He also enjoys spending time at family events throughout the city and exploring Houston’s late-night culture.
Now, Kizzy Blunt is preparing for one of the biggest moments of his career with the release of his sixth project, Snakes In The Garden, arriving August 14, 2026, and hosted by DJ Mad Lurk. More than a decade in the making, the project reflects years of growth, sacrifice, sleepless nights, and relentless dedication. It’s a body of work he says he has complete confidence in.
Above everything, Kizzy gives thanks to God for carrying him through the difficult moments that could have broken him. He also credits his wife, who has supported his dream since they were kids, and his sons, who continue to inspire him every day.
