The Next Dragon: A Chicago Story is a gritty and realistic tale of a young martial artist named Ledarius Tate, who grew up on the Southside of Chicago idolizing his childhood hero Bruce Leroy, after getting into an unexpected altercation, Ledarius finds himself in the clutches of the legal system.
Ledarius is a good kid caught in a bad situation, unlike his little brother DeQuan, who is a gun toting, slick talking 14 year old drug dealer, who jumped off the porch at the ripe age of 11 and has been terrorizing the streets ever since.
While on probation, Ledarius meets and falls for a gifted dancer named Brooklyn, but before their love can blossom, he suddenly becomes the target of a group of rogue martial artists called The B.O.A aka The Brotherhood of Assassins, or simply the Boa Boyz, led by a maniacal menace named AK, who wants to beat Ledarius up and expose him on World Star for the all to see.
The book is drawing comparisons to The Last Dragon, Ice Cube’s classic comedy Friday, Menace ll Society and the pioneering Hip Hop classic film Beat Street, as it also follows the emergence of Brooklyn’s best friend Cali, a lyrically vicious female rapper, determined to make it in the music industry.
The Next Dragon: A Chicago Story is a love letter to the culture and the City of Chicago, and has gained the attention of Chicago Icons such as Jason Weaver (The Chi) Larenz Tate (Micheal) Lahmard Tate (Barbershop) Legendary Chicago rappers Da Brat and Coldhard of Crucial Conflict have all expressed interest in the project.
The author Noah B. Shaw is a music executive, songwriter and journalist who is from 87th street, on the Southside of Chicago, where the book actually takes place, and went to Calumet Highschool. He now lives in Atlanta and has worked behind the scenes in the music industry for over 20 years.
NYT best selling author KiKi Swinson, who edited the book has co-signed the project by saying that the book is “One of the more enjoyable books she has read” and that the author “has his finger on the pulse of great story telling” which the author expressed was one of the biggest complements he has received, which gave him the confirmation that he really has what it takes to succeed as a writer.
The author has created a movement to get the book adapted to film, but has expressed his frustration with finding a reputable literary agent, but is also optimistic as TV and Film personalities are becoming increasingly supportive, and invites any others to reach out for the book’s completed pitch deck.
The author has also expressed that the book is an expandable IP universe like 50 Cents popular TV series “Power” where spin offs, sequels and prequels are planned in the future.
