Hailing from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a city often known as “the Tre,” $hyfromdatre has built her identity around where she comes from and the experiences that shaped her. Her name is more than an artist title—it represents the place that raised her and the journey that continues to influence her music.
Growing up, $hyfromdatre describes her childhood as real simple. Things began to change once she reached middle school, when she found herself getting into fights and becoming more aggressive. She admits that at the time, she often reacted from an emotional place. After experiencing bullying in sixth grade, her mother taught her how to fight, helping her learn how to defend herself in an environment where she felt she had to be tough.
She eventually graduated from Parkland Magnet High School in 2018. After high school, she attended tech school for about a year, but music was always pulling her in another direction. Although she had been rapping since she was a little kid, it wasn’t until around the age of 19 that she decided to take her music career seriously.
One of her biggest inspirations came from watching The Rap Game, the television series hosted by Jermaine Dupri. Seeing young artists her own age competing and pursuing music professionally gave her the motivation to stop simply writing songs for fun and start putting her own music into the world.
For $hyfromdatre, music became more than just entertainment. Her aggressive sound comes directly from her reality. She writes about real-life situations, emotions and experiences, using music as a way to express things she may not always say out loud. That honesty has become an important part of her identity as an artist.
After independently releasing music for a short period, everything began to change when her single “Go Best Friend” started circulating heavily on TikTok. The viral momentum surrounding the record, which was tied to a diss track, introduced $hyfromdatre to a much larger audience and brought increased attention from record labels.
She continued building on that momentum with “1730G,” further establishing herself as an artist to watch. Since then, she has continued to release music and expand her catalog with records including “6000 Degrees (AH HA),” “Go Bestfriend,” “M$ Hardbody,” “13th Street,” “No Way,” and more.
Now, $hyfromdatre is continuing to push her sound and represent Winston-Salem on her own terms. Her latest single, “What A Bummer,” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
